Chieftains split close sets


Lake Holcombe was in action for volleyball, over the week, facing off with two tough league opponents.
Sept. 9 vs. Birchwood conference (W 3-1) The first one the Chieftains faced, was Birchwood on the road, taking the first set, 25-21. The second set was not even close and Lake Holcombe claimed that, 25-13.
In the third set, the Bobcats rallied, to take it 25-23, but the Chieftains would not go down without a fight and reeled in the fourth set, for the win, 25-13.
Junior Claire Jankee lead the team in kills, with 10, while also notching 4 aces. Juniors Payton Birkenholz followed that with 8 kills and 15 digs, with junior Chloe Irwin also having 8 kills, as well as 3 aces.
Sophomore Jayna Erickson added 13 assists and 7 aces, while sophomore Breanna Frear had 11 assists and 5 aces, and sophomore Taylor Dernovsek ended with 10 digs.
Sept. 11 vs. Bruce conference (L 3-1) A couple days later, the Chieftains were at home, with Bruce coming to call. Lake Holcombe dropped the first set, 25-22, but came storming back in the second set, to take the win, 25-23.
That would be it and the Raiders took the final sets, 2523 and 25-17.
Jankee again came up big, with 13 kills and 5 blocks, with Birkenholz adding 8 kills. Irwin finished with 6 kills and 14 digs, while Erickson had 4 aces and 16 assists.
