Irene Foster, 96, Chippewa Falls, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire. Irene was born in the Town of Arthur, Chippewa County, to William and Emma (Lange) Oemig, April 14, 1927. She attended schools in the Town of Cleveland and graduated from Cornell High School in 1945. Irene was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cornell, and a member of the Ladies’ Aide. Presently, she was a member of Faith Lutheran in Chippewa Falls. She had been employed in the dietary department of the Northern Center for 26 years, until her retirement. Irene enjoyed 4-H in her younger years, and many of the friendships she gained in 4-H remained her lifelong friends. She loved to bake, cook, sew, read and do crossword puzzles. She enjoyed her family, grandchildren and especially her great-grandchildren. Irene also loved to travel and spend time at the lake, with family and friends. She was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and was so happy when they won the World Series in 2016. She also enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers and golf on TV. Irene married Fred Beighley. They had eight children together. She later married Howard Foster. She is survived by daughters – Karen (Dick) Martinson, Menomonie, Barbara (Gary Van Sickle) Olson, St. Paul, Minn., Janet Kowalewski, Eau Claire; and Debra (Robert) Howard, Aurora, Colo.; sons – Dale Beighley, Boyd, and Mark (Sandy) Beighley, Devils Lake, N.D.; grandchildren – Kurt, Katie, Kari, Selyna, Janelle, Natalie, Stacey, Stephanie, Andy, Alex, Heather and William; stepgrandchildren – Cory, Courtney and Bob; 12 great-grandchildren; four stepgreat- grandchildren; son-in-law – Tom Wajek; and many special nieces and nephews; and friends. She was preceded in death by two daughters – Julie Kay Beighley and Gail Marie Wajek; her husbands; son-in-law – Ed Kowalewski; sisters – Clara, Helen, Grace, Ellen and Norma; and brothers – Bud, John, Elmer, Edward and Wallace. A very special thank you is given to Tim and Shirley Blizek, for their kindness and assistance to Irene over the years. A strong Christian all her life, she wanted to share the following Bible verse: “I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith.” II Timothy 4:7 KJV Services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls, with the Rev. Mark Neumann officiating, Friday, June 23, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour before the service. Lunch will be served in the fellowship hall, following the service. Merlin “Merl” E. Huhn Merlin “Merl” E. Huhn, 69, Cadott, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, May 14, 2020, at Sacred Heart Hospital. Merl was born in Chippewa County, to Errol “Cheesie” and Geraldine Huhn, and grew up in the Cadott area. He attended college at UWSuperior and UW-Eau Claire, graduating from UW-Eau Claire. Merl was a master cheesemaker and worked in the dairy business for many years. He also owned a farm, ran a milk route, and had a 21-year career as a Wisconsin state food inspector. He served the community, first as an EMT, as a member of the Cadott Chamber of Commerce and most recently, as a trustee for the Village of Cadott. Merl’s joy was his lifelong marriage to Joyce, and the various hobbies and activities they shared. They enjoyed ballroom dancing and he loved spending time with his family. He was an outdoorsman who loved nature, fishing, hunting, trap shooting and golfing. Merl was a caring and generous man, who always did the right thing, and put his family and friends first. He will be missed more than words can describe. He is survived by his devoted wife – Joyce; his children – Kelly Centofanti (Mike Ryer) and Bart Chapek (JoAnn Danielson); grandchildren – Carrie Chapek and Bonnie Chapek; his sisters – Cheri Huhn, Lynette Huhn and Brenda Huhn (Mark Schoonover); his niece Shellie (Doug) Asher; great-niece – Tayler Asher; and great-nephew – Zachary Asher. He is preceded in death by his parents – Errol and Geraldine Huhn. Private family services were held. Leiser Funeral Home in Cadott, is assisting the family with arrangements.
