It was a stellar week, for the Cadott cross country program, as they captured first place on the road, while seeing a lot of personal bests.

Sept. 11 Stanley-Boyd Among the 11 other teams at Stanley-Boyd, the Hornets breezed through the course and came up with first place, ahead of Regis.

“There was tough competition, including a couple of state-ranked teams, which made for an exciting afternoon,” said coach Dan Yeager.

Individually, junior Beau Steinke led for much of the race, then fell behind, putting on a burst of speed, as he neared the finish line, ending in second place, in a time of 17:00.91. Sophomore Jacob Pilgrim wasn’t far behind, coming in seventh (18:35.04), with a new best time, while senior Saibyn Will placed 11th (19:14.86).

Also finishing high, was junior Jon Phelps (19:38.87) and junior Garrett Engel, who was 20th (19:59.04).

Sept. 13 Loyal Just two days later, the Hornets were again on the road, this time, to Loyal, but that didn’t slow them down, as they once more captured first place as a team.

“This is the second of three races the teams will compete in, within six days,” said Yeager.

Steinke also came up big, placing first (17:46). “However, this time leading the team was special, as it was his first time placing first overall,” said Yeager.

Pilgrim was right behind, placing second (18:39), shaving 4 seconds of his best time, while Will was fourth (19:39) and Phelps was just a step behind, for fifth (19:52). Engel followed that up with seventh (20:35), with junior Kaden Roen in ninth (21:07), sophomore Klay Handrick in 10th (23:39) and freshman Elliot Koenig in 12th (23:59).

Junior Max Demulling came next, placing 14th (25:04), followed by senior John Enestvedt, in 17th (27:18) and senior Mitchell Reineke ending in 20th (28:16).
