Cadott faring well against competition

It was off to Neillsville, for the Cadott cross country runners Sept. 12, coming off their high marks at the previous week’s meet.

The girls again took top honors, finishing in third, while the boys team placed eighth.

“Rained off and on throughout the meet,” said coach Tom Weiss.

Sophomore Iszy Sonnentag led for the girls, finishing in fifth place individually, with a time of 22:25.8. Senior Jaycee Stephens was right behind her, for sixth (22:30.2), followed by junior Lyla Weggen in 22nd (24:31.1) and sophomore Josie Roth for 26th (25:10.1).

Junior Cortney Weggen came next in 33rd (25:48.4), while junior Mia Weggen was 37th (26:16.5). Sophomore Lexi Bremness followed that up with a 47th place finish (28:18.3) and junior McKenna Steinke was just a small step behind in 48th (28:19.5).

Placing 50th was junior Adrianna Goodman (28:26.9) and senior Alaina Kempen rounded it out with 64th (45:54.4).

On the boys side, sophomore Saibyn Will ended the day 19th (19:26.1), with freshman Beau Steinke in 31st (20:11.1) and freshman Jon Phelps in 42nd (20:59.1). Following that, junior Ewan Weir placed 46th (21:07.4) and freshman Kaden Roen was 57th (22:15.2).

Freshman Garrett Engel came next in 59th (22:17.3), with senior Eli Burich right behind that for 61st (22:24.8), while senior Sage Handrick placed 70th (23:03.2). Sophomore Gryphen Lindeman ended in 74th (23:44.7), while three runners crossed the line for 76th, 77th and 78th – sophomore Zach Kroeplin (23:49.9), senior Braden Denzine (23:56) and freshman Klay Handrick (24:16.8).

“Some really good competition for both high school teams,” said Weiss.
