Sox take one out of three

It was hot and humid, but that didn’t stop the Cadott Red Sox from playing not one, but three baseball games over the weekend. June 20 vs. Tilden (W 8-4) First up, the Sox hosted the Tilden Tigers, in a deadlocked match until the fifth inning, when the visitors put a run on the board. Cadott answered back in the bottom of the fifth, with three runs, but Tilden wasn’t done. They added another three runs in the next inning, to up by one, but Cadott would not be denied. By the end of the sixth, the Sox had five more runs cross the plate. That would be it for either team and Cadott hung on, to take an 8-4 win. Gio Basile was on the mound for the Sox, going just over five innings, allowing 6 hits, 4 runs and 4 walks, while striking out 6. Jack Gabler then took over for the remainder of the game, giving up 3 hits and punching out 4 batters. Offensively, Logan Burzynski collected 3 hits, while Luke Erickson, Cole Bakkum and Zac Merritt each had 2, and Jack Kein, Jonah Hanson, Jack Redwine and Carter Hesselman all came up with a hit. June 22 vs. Eau Claire (L 5-1) Then, in almost 100 degree heat and extreme warnings, the Sox traveled to Eau Claire, to take on the Bears, in a doubleheader. In game one, offense wasn’t there for Cadott, as they scored just a single run in the game, while the Bears racked up a run in the first inning, and two in each of the fourth and fifth innings, for a 5-1 victory. Gabler was at the helm, going three innings and allowing 3 hits, a run and 3 walks, and striking out 3. Ryan Zimmerman went two innings for the Sox, giving up 4 hits, 4 runs and 2 walks, while striking out 2. Rick Danielson then finished out the game, pitching an inning and allowing a lone hit. Sam Feck added 2 hits for the Sox, with Kein, Erickson and Burzynski all chipping in with a hit. June 22 vs. Eau Claire (L 3-2) In game two, the Bears struck first, putting two runs on the board in the opening inning. Scoring dried up after that, until the fifth inning, when both teams had a run come in. Cadott made a desperate attempt to come back in the top of the seventh, adding a run, but time and outs ran out on them, and the game went to Eau Claire, 3-2. Going all six innings on the mound for the Sox, was Zack Thiesse, who gave up 10 hits, 3 runs and a lone walk, while striking out 4. On offense, Kein, Hanson, Redwine, Burzynski, Merritt, Hesselman and Chad Kron all had a hit for Cadott.
