Roger Harold Nehring, 73, Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away July 17, 2023.

Roger was born to Harold and Irene Nehring, July 11, 1950, in Chippewa Falls.

He had a distinguished career as an electronic development engineer at Fermilab in Batavia, Ill., for over 30 years, starting in 1978. Then, in 1990, he moved to Waxahachie, Texas, to take a job with the Superconducting Super Collider, until it closed in 1993. Roger returned to Fermilab and worked as an engineer associate, until he retired in 2015.

Roger had many hobbies, such as sailing, scuba diving, tennis and biking. He was always on the water and spent most of his summers in, and around, Lake Michigan, with his family and friends. He realized his dream in 2016, by retiring and moving to Punta Gorda, Fla. He spent his retirement on his sailboat, playing tennis or traveling.

He was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and John Wayne movies.

Roger was a hardworking man, who was a great friend, and loving father and grandfather, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his daughters – Britany (Andrew) Nehring-Lappin and Brianne (Matthew Mitchell) Nehring; granddaughter – Ivy Rose Mitchell; and his sisters – Miriam (John) Bourget, Roxanne Brustad and Naomi (Joe) Bueb.

He was preceded in death by his parents – Harold and Irene.

Memorial services will be Friday, Sept. 1, at 2 p.m., at the home of John and Miriam Bourget in Cadott.
