Darlene was an amazing mom, who loved and served her family by providing excellent baked items and using her seamstress skills. She had such an excellent reputation for being reliable and trustworthy that she never had to apply for a job, but was asked if she would come to work for several different employers, including Anita’s Dress Shop and K-Mart. Darlene was an avid reader and also loved dancing to country music. She was a long time football fan of the Green Bay Packers and University of regon Ducks. In 2015, she moved to Springfield to be closer to family, in assisted living. Darlene had a tenacity for life as shown by living well beyond expectations after a serious fall in 2019. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Percy Becken, Gloria Bedrosian, LaMyra Wienfurtner, Angela “Joyce” Kauffman and Halver “Sonny” Becken. Also preceding her in death was her husband, Gordon (1996), infant great-grandson, Samuel Babbitt, and “favorite son-in-law” Len Nothwang. Darlene is survived by her daughter, Gayle Nothwang Holdeman of Pleasant Hill, re., Jason Schjoneman of Coos Bay and stepson Gary Schjoneman of Wisconsin, as well as four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, along with siblings: Jacinta “Sandy” Fredrickson, June Decker and many nieces and nephews. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park in Coos Bay, next to her beloved husband. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Paid obituary 147639

Robert Gosse

Robert “Bob” P. Gosse, age 76, of Abbotsford, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, Jan. 12, 2024 at the Colonial Center in Colby under the tender care of St. Croix Hospice. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024, at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. A visitation will be held from 12 noon until the time of the service Sunday at the funeral home. Bob was born on April 8, 1947, the son of Melvin and Betty (Krueger) Gosse in Wausau. After graduating from Colby High School in 1965, he pursued a career in auto mechanics, entering the apprenticeship program at Dale Chevrolet in Waukesha. Being his own boss worked well for him. After moving to Curtiss in 1970 and working for Radlinger Chevrolet in Dorchester, Bob purchased a filling station in Curtiss. From there, he expanded with a second station in Colby. In the mid 1970’s , Bob was given an opportunity to buy a cab over semi tractor and so his over the road trucking began. Many family sacrifices were made to provide this steady income. He retired from his many years of driving in 2009. Bob became involved with the city government of Abbotsford, being elected alderman. He had time then to fish at Miller Dam and have morning coffee with the guys. Bob enjoyed car racing of all kinds, even entering his personal car, which he named Syncopation, in the drag races in Union Grove in his earlier years. His pride and joy was the old Carver boat he owned. He passed the keys to his son, Jeremy, and loved seeing and hearing stories of the boat being used. Bob is survived by his wife, Sandi; his five children: Jonathan (Tyherrona) Gosse, Jeremy (Glynda) Gosse, Jimmy (Mary) Gosse, Jered (April) Gosse and Tova (Eric) Eliason; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his six siblings: Mike (Sue) Gosse, Peggy (Mark)Winchester, Bill (Luanne) Gosse, Brenda Wiese, Barb (Dan) Jorgensen and Theresa (Scott) Stai; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Barbara Gaulke

Barbara Maybell (Ladd) Gaulke, age 90, of Colby, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024, at Colby Senior Care, under the tender care of St. Croix Hospice. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 26, 2024, at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. Rev. James Groleau will preside. A visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Cumberland. Barbara was born on Sept. 16, 1933, in Cumberland, the daughter of William and Katie (Grimson) Ladd Sr. Barbara grew up in a small shack and contributed to chores and other tasks that helped benefit her family. She often told stories of her many adventures and exciting meetings with animals of the woods. Barbara attended Cumberland High School and it was at that time her love for education, especially reading and learning, was instilled. Barbara worked hard to achieve her dream of receiving her college education. She attended UW-River Falls, Kansas State University, UW-Eau Claire and UW-Superior, earning her degrees in elementary education, a master’s in reading education and a master’s in administration. Barbara resided in Colby for over 65 years and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church throughout that time. Barbara’s career in education spanned 42 years with stops in the Owen-Withee district and many years as the principal of Stratford Elementary. Barbara saw reading as the most important step for a child’s learning process and started an award-winning reading education model at Stratford Elementary. She was also honored as Wisconsin State Principal of the Year. Barbara (mom, grandmother and greatgrandmother) will always be remembered for her undying love of her family and her love of nature, birds and animals, especially her dogs. She was famous for her neighborhood Halloween parties and her jokes and pranks. She made it very clear that reading books to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was priority number one. Barbara also was an avid gardener and took care of many plants and trees, especially her beloved catalpa trees. Barbara is survived by her two sons: Greg Gaulke of River Falls and Glenn (Jane) Gaulke of Belmont; five grandchildren: Heidi (Clint) Riese of River Falls, Kayla (Derrek) Pedersen of New Richmond, Erin (Justin) Leonard of Mineral Point, Elliott (Haley) Gaulke of Pine Island, Minn., and Eden (Anthony) Statz of Black Earth; ten great-grandchildren: Owen Leonard, Stella Leonard, Jack Leonard, Cassius Statz, Roman Statz, Quinn Gaulke, Lexi Gaulke, Colt Pedersen, Clara Pedersen and Jordy Riese. She is also survived by her brother, Jim Ladd of Cumberland, as well as her longtime loving friend, Gerald Thompson. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, William Ladd Jr.; and her sister, Shirley Forest; as well as nephews: Larry Ladd, Ronny Ladd and Kelly Forest.
