Robert Barkley
Robert J. Barkley, age 91, of Abbotsford, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the Aspirus Hospice House in Wausau. He was a proud resident of Abbotsford for 56 years. Private services will be held. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is entrusted with the arrangements.
Robert was born on January 23,1935, the son of John and Helen (Unrein) Barkley. He graduated from Wauwatosa High School in 1953 and furthered his education by graduating from Michigan Tech in 1957 with a bachelors degree in business. His masters degree was received from Northern Arizona University in 1963. He also served seven years in the Army Reserve.
Robert was united in marriage to Maurine Heft on June 28, 1969 in West Allis. Together they celebrated 51 years of marriage, until Maurine passed away in 2020. Robert was a dedicated worker during those years. He worked at Delco Electronics and later was a teacher at the Owen-Withee High School. He finished his career by working at Stratford Homes for 30 years.
Robert enjoyed music, especially playing the clarinet and piano. He took pride in playing the piano for the church. His passion for traveling in a pop-up camper took him to Colorado at least 20 times. Robert made great memories by visiting Alaska, Newfoundland and Europe. He also had a passion for oil painting in the Southwest and Native American style. You could see his art displayed around the city of Abbotsford. Robert is survived by his daughter, Leslie (Shon Marcott) Barkley of Weston; five grandchildren: Brittany Montgomery of Weston, Kenneth Hoffmann of Los Angeles, Calif., Christopher Hoffmann of Los Angeles, Calif., Jade Revak of Weston and Michael Revak of Weston; three great-grandchildren: Noah, Jackson and Lara Montgomery. He is further survived by his sister, Pat (Jim) Fleckenstein; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife; a brother: Paul Barkley; as well as many cousins, aunts and uncles.
