Local athletes competed at WIAA Division 3 Sectional 1 at Colby High School last Friday, with the top four athletes in each event advancing to the state competition, which will be held this Friday and Saturday at Veterans Memorial Stadium Complex at UW-La Crosse. Athletes had to place in the top four in their event to qualify for state. The following are local athletes’ results.

Loyal Qualifying for state were the members of the girls 4x200m relay team, including Summer Smith, Hope Peroshek, Noelle Teschner, and Addysen Wolf, with Lillian Boushon and Aaliyah Pearson as alternates. They placed fourth with a time of 1:49.43. Smith, Teschner, and Wolf were part of a 4x100m team that went to state last year and took ninth, with Peroshek serving as an alternate.

Wolf, a junior, also qualified in three events individually. She won the 100m dash with a time of 12.39, returning to state after taking seventh there last year. She also won the 200m dash with a time of 25.85, another event she went to state for last year. She took second in the high jump at 5 feet, 2 inches (5-2).

Other results were: Aaliyah Pearson, Annika Schley, Teschner, and Smith competed on the 4x400m relay team and placed 10th with a time of 4:27.14. Raelyn Fritz and Gwen LaMarr were alternates. Olivia Nikolai tied for 10th place in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 7-6. Pearson took 11th place in the 400m dash at 1:10.53. Teschner placed 13th in the 200m dash at 28.77.

For the boys, Payton Tsai took sixth in the boys pole vault, clearing the bar at 12-6; and Jaden Smith placed 15th in the boys discus throw at 118-02.

The Loyal girls team tied for seventh place out of 35 teams represented at sectionals, with 33 points. Winning the meet was Cadott with 54 points.

Spencer Breckin Miller qualified for state in two events. He won the 110m hurdles, crossing the finish line at 15.65 seconds; and took fourth in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 12-9. He also placed ninth in the long jump at 19-2.5, not qualifying for state.

Other results were: the boys 4x100m relay team placed sixth with a time of 45.06. Team members were Jackson Hoeper, Efrain Olguin-Cano, Benjamin Felgner, and Miller, with Teddy Meyer and Sam Helgestad as alternates. Olguin-Cano took 10th in the 100m dash at 11.61. Meyer placed 11th in the triple jump at 39-1.25 and 13th in the 110m hurdles at 18.33. Reven Zschernitz took 14th in shot put at 39-8. The Spencer boys tied for 12th place out of 34 teams with 18 points. Ladysmith won the meet with 78 points.

For the girls, Caitlin Clark took 10th in the 100m dash at 13.37.

Greenwood Qualifying for state was Renaya Horvath, who competed in several wheelchair events. She took first in the 100m race at 26.8, first in the 400m race at 1:49.33, first in the 800m race at 3:24.92, and first in the shot put at 14-5. She went to state for the 100m, 400m, and shot put last year as well.

REGIONALS Before competing at sectionals, athletes first had to make it through regionals. The WIAA Division 3 Regional 1D was held at Gilman High School last week Tuesday, with again the top four in each event moving on to sectionals. However, the top eight in each event scored points for their team. The following are those scoring points for local schools.

Loyal On the girls’ side, Wolf won the 100m dash with a time of 12.84, as well as the 200m at 26.04, setting a new school record. She also took second in the high jump at 4-10. The 4x200m relay team took first place at 1:49.91. The 4x400 team placed third at 4:35.95. Nikolai took fourth in the pole vault at 8-6. Teschner took fourth in the 200m dash at 28.06. Pearson took fourth in the 400m dash at 1:05.99.

Summer Smith took fifth in the triple jump at 31-9.5. Peroshek placed fifth in the discus at 93-8. Boushon took sixth in the 100m at 13.97. LaMarr took sixth in the 800m run at 2:49.29. Schley finished just behind her, taking seventh at 2:49.58. Lesly Soto took eighth in the 100m hurdles at 20.72.

The girls placed fifth out of 13 teams at regionals with 76 points. Coming in first place was Cadott at 106, with

other team scores of Owen-Withee 97, Neillsville 96, Athens 79, Gilman 68, Abbotsford 51, Colby 44, Columbus Catholic 25, Spencer 23, Thorp 6, Greenwood 3, and Granton 1.

On the boys’ side, Jaden Smith took fourth in the discus at 120 feet even. Tsai took fourth in the pole vault at 11-6. Jerome Buchanan took fifth in the 200m dash at 25.38. The 4x100m relay team placed sixth with a time of 49.35.

The Loyal boys took 11th out of 12 teams with 17 points. Owen-Withee won the meet with 108 points.

Spencer On the girls’ side, Clark took fourth in the 100m dash at 13.64, fifth in the 200m at 28.32, and fifth in the long jump at 14-9. Autumn Davis claimed fifth place in the 400m dash at 1:07.17. The 4x100m relay took fifth with a time of 54.28, with team members of Katherine Yorgey, Rachel Nieman, Brooklyn Baumgarten, and Clark. Tahneya Anderson placed eighth in the 400m dash at 1:13.32. Kaitlin Radue placed eighth in the discus throw, reaching a distance of 89-10.

The Spencer girls took 10th place out of 13 teams with 23 points.

On the boys’ side, Miller placed first in the 110m hurdles at 16 seconds flat. Meyer was two seconds after him at 18.03, good for fourth place. Miller also took third in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 12 feet, and fourth in long jump at 19-8.25. Meyer took second in the triple jump at 40-5.5. The 4x100m relay team placed second at 45.96. Zschernitz took fourth in the shot put at 39-7.5, while Mason Dieringer placed eighth at 34-9.5.

Olguin-Cano placed third in the 100m dash at 11.84, while Felgner took sixth in that event at 12.16, and Hoeper took eighth at 12.47. Helgestad took fifth in the discus event, throwing for 111-3. Kade Dovenbager placed seventh in the 3,200m run with a time of 15:14.12. Kainan Davis took eighth in the 200m dash at 26.06. Olguin-Cano took eighth in the long jump at 18-7.

The Spencer boys finished sixth out 12 teams with 66 points, just behind Cadott, which had 68 points.

Greenwood For the girls, Faith Kolano placed sixth in the 1,600m run at 6:04.94.

The boys 4x100m relay team placed seventh with a time of 49.64. Team members were Dre Green, Chad Oldham, Andrew Lindner, and Peyton Ellis, in that order. Oldham also took sixth in the 800m run at 2:16.13. Ellis took seventh in the 200m dash at 25.55, and Lindner took seventh in the triple jump at 33-10.75.

In the wheelchair division, Horvath took first in the 100m at 23.36, first in the 400m at 1:36.13, first in the 800m at 3:40.29, and first in the shot put at 14-2.75.

The Greenwood boys placed 12th out of 12 teams with 9 points, while the Greenwood girls placed 12th out of 13 teams with 3 points.

Granton The girls 4x100m relay team took eighth place with a time of 58.04, scoring 1 point. Team members were Perpetua Thomas, Kennedy Young, Jordan Berg, and Kaity Timm.
