Three of Cadott’s girl wrestlers headed to State competition in Madison, Feb. 22-24, looking to come home with high placings.

“Each wrestler came prepared and battled hard,” said coach Zach Sirny.

Returning for the second year in a row, sophomore Iszy Sonnentag (100 pounds) started strong, taking her first round match against Dodgeville’s Ava Lord, in just 45 seconds. She then went on to wrestle Freedom’s Katherine Cook, taking a win, by fall, in 3:43.

Sonnentag then faced Marshfield’s Ava Gardner, who claimed the win, by technical foul, sending Sonnentag to the consolation round. First up, she faced Milton’s Clara Jauch, winning over her to go up against Cook again. Sonnentag got the victory by fall, in 2:09, to take third place for the Hornets.

Senior Makenna Harel (120) was also on the mat in the first round, going up against Mineral Point’s Dealya Collins, dropping the bout in 15 seconds.

“Makenna had a great season and learned a lot, I am happy she was able to end it down in Madison,” said Sirny.

Freshman Tessa York (114) also made her first WIAA State wrestling appearance, taking on Sophia Wagner, of Princeton-Green Lake, dropping the match by technical foul. She then met South Door’s Nora LeFevre in the consolation round, but also dropped that.

“I am proud of how the girls wrestled down here, it is a big stage and they were all ready to battle,” said Sirny.
