By Ginna Young

The softball program at Cadott ran into roadblocks this week, as they struggled against West Cloverbelt Conference opponents, but regained their footing when stepping out of the league.

April 18 vs. Thorp conference (L 11-10)

First up for Cadott, was a game at home against Thorp, and while the Hornets had 18 hits and 10 RBIs, it wasn’t enough, as the Cardinals snuck by Cadott, for an 11-10 victory.

“Tough loss for such an exciting game for the Hornets against Thorp,” said coach Lexie Rothabuer.

Junior Rilei Weeks had an inside-the-park homer, while sophomore Kennedy Nerdrum had a pair of doubles and sophomore Lexi Bremness had a single, double and triple to her credit.

Nerdrum also turned a double play on defense and junior Kasey Moldrem was at the mound, striking out 5 batters.

April 19 vs. Fall Creek conference (L 6-0)

The next night, the Hornets traveled to Fall Creek, but offense wasn’t in Cadott’s favor, as they fell to the Crickets in a 6-0 shutout.

Sophomore Abi Bowe had the team’s only hit, while Moldrem was again at the helm, with 5 strikeouts.

April 22 vs. Spencer non-conference (W 7-6)

After a weekend of rest, the Hornets hosted Spencer, with a close match to offer the spectators. At the end, Cadott was the victor, with a 7-6 win.

Nerdrum again came up with a pair of doubles, while senior Bella Barone ended with a single and a double. Bowe had a clutch walk-off hit to drive in the game winning run.

On the mound for Cadott, was Bremness, who punched out six batters.

The Hornets are now 5-3 on the season and 1-2 in league action.
