of hands-on learning happening in the FACS dept.

The seventh- and eighth-grade Exploring Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) classes (below left) have been working on creating scrap quilts to be donated to those in need. A solid color was chosen for each quilt, and a variety of coordinating prints were selected to create the pattern. We used 11-inch squares, with each quilt top measuring about 60 inches by 80 inches. We need to add batting and a back, tie them and bind them before delivering them to be shared. Some of our corners donā€™t exactly match, but the overall effect is colorful and functional.

Above right, four Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FC-Lots CLA) students assisted serving a meal for the Title 1 reading night held last month during parent-teacher conferences. FACS classes prepared the meal, and Autumn, Bryce, Estrella and Summer served up the goodies.

At bottom left and below right, students prepared a colorful, yummy charcuterie cup for each of our teachers and staff during National Teacher Week. Everyone in our building is important to the education of our students! The treats consisted of pecan brittle, carrots, cucumber slices, a brownie, homemade breadstick and a spear of cheese, sausage and olives. We hope they all enjoyed the treats, because it was really fun making them.

At bottom middle and right, eighth-grade Exploring students got to try their hand at making cupcakes to enjoy and share. Besides the mixing, baking and frosting, donā€™t forget about the cleanup. Itā€™s all part of the process!
