The Loyal school volleyball program hosted its annual “Dig Pink” Night Oct. 3 in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The event included a chili feed, raffle and t-shirt sales with $1,856 being raised for a local breast cancer patient.

Coach Jaedyn Pieper extended her appreciation to all who donated food, baskets, time or t-shirts to make the event successful. “We are happy to be donating to somebody local who is battling breast cancer but is certainly not battling alone!” she wrote in an email. “The shirts said that we are tougher than cancer and stronger together, and that is certainly the truth. Last night was a great reminder that there are some things much bigger than the game of volleyball, and I am so grateful that everyone came out to support a great cause!”

Loyal lost the varsity volleyball game, three sets to two. “The start of the game was very slow for us. It took us until the middle of the third game to really kick it in gear. We were down 14-22 and showed some discipline and mental toughness to come back and win that game 27-25, then taking the fourth game 25-13,” wrote Pieper. “That fifth game was a battle to 15 and though we fell to Colby 17-15 (teams must win by 2), we left it all out on the court. We walked away with a tough loss, but from tough losses we learn a lot. The more close, tough games that we are a part of only give us more experience for the, hopefully, long road ahead. I am extremely proud of the girls coming together, fighting back and not giving up. The girls proved last night that they have a lot in them, and I’m excited to see them come together for the rest of this season!” Team leaders on the night were Addysen Wolf with 14 kills, Autumn Zvolena with six blocks, Hope Peroshek led with 28 digs and Danielle Strey with 33 assists.

The Greenwood High School volleyball team held their annual “Dig Pink” Night Oct. 3 at their home game versus Gilman. Although Greenwood lost the game three sets to none, they were successful in a more important way, as they raised more than $5,200 to donate to two local families dealing with cancer. Nearly 70 raffle baskets were donated by local businesses and individuals, in addition to an autographed Packer jersey and a large TV. Proceeds from the concession stand also went towards the donation of funds.
