Wilbur “Bill” C. LaRue


Wilbur “Bill” C. LaRue, 91, Holcombe, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2021.
Bill was born Aug. 14, 1930, in Shreveport, La., and grew up in St. Croix Falls, where he graduated from high school in 1948.
He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1951-53, following which, he attended the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. It was there he met his loving wife, Jean, whom he married in 1954.
After graduating from college, Bill began his 33-year career at Colfax High School, where he taught history for four years, then served as the high school principal for 29 years.
Through the years, Bill enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and bowling, and was a talented cook and gardener.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years – Jean Adrian LaRue; three daughters – Mary, Chippewa Falls, Susan, Holcombe, and Adrienne (Philip) Pau, New Market, Md.; grandchildren – Amanda Pau, Chesapeake, Va., Marisa (Dave) Bruce, Fairfield, Pa., and Ryan (Jackie) Pau, Gig Harbor, Wash; three great-grandchildren – Jordy and Cooper Pau, and Jack Bruce; and many brothers and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother – Margaret McCourt LaRue; and sisters – Norma (Steve) Stephens and Dorothy (Bob) Drew.
A celebration of life was held for Bill Sunday, Dec. 19, from 1 to 4 p.m., at Sampson Funeral Home in Colfax.
Sampson Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
