Jerome Murphy

Jerome E. Murphy, 77, Loyal, passed away on April 20,2024, at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield. A celebration of life for Jerome and Susan will be held on the lower level of the First Presbyterian Church in Arpin, on Saturday, May 11,2024, starting at 12 p.m. It will be a casual potluck gathering for those who wish to attend. Private burial will take place at a later date in Zion American Lutheran Church Cemetery in Granton.

Jerome Eldon Murphy was born on May 4,1946, in La Crosse, the son of Joseph H. and Margaret M. (Wunzel) Murphy. In 1953, his family moved to the Spencer/Marsh field area, where he attended Spencer public schools. Jerome entered the U.S. Army on Feb. 17,1967, and served until his honorable discharge on May 12,1967. He returned to Spencer and worked on the Soo Line Railroad. Jerome was united in marriage to Susan Rae Schlinsog on Jan. 27,1973, at Zion American Lutheran Church in Granton. He worked as a heavy equipment operator in Marshfield for Roger Haske, and then for Joe Zupanc in Loyal as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator. Jerome later opened his own meat processing business, which he did until retiring. After retiring, he worked part-time for Bear Creek Canvas in Spencer.

He was a member of the Black River Bowman Club in Greenwood, and loved hunt ing, fishing, planting fruit trees and bee-keeping.

Jerome is survived two sons: Jonathan (Elizabeth) Murphy of Auburndale and Joel Murphy of Loyal; four grandchildren: Erin, Lilly, Hunter and Jessimae; two sisters: JoAnn Weis of Wisconsin Rapids and Joyce Burg of Marshfield; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Susan, on Feb. 20,2024; one sister: Janice Frantz; and two brothers: Robert and Joseph, Jr.
