Wilmer was born at home in Spencer on March 27, 1939, to Darel and Frances (Neumann) Griepentrog. He grew up in Spencer and graduated from Spencer High School, carrying with him the strong work ethic and values that shaped the rest of his life.
On May 6, 1961, Wilmer married the love of his life, Patricia Krasselt, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer. Together they built a loving home rooted in faith and commitment.
Wilmer had a career with General Telephone, where he worked in a variety of roles including installation, repair, construction detailing, and drafting blueprints for future projects. His keen attention to detail and dedication made him a valued member of the company. After leaving General Telephone, he worked as a security guard at Marshfield Clinic until his retirement, always offering a friendly face and steady presence.
Aman of deep faith, Wilmer was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Marshfield. Wilmer believed strongly in giving back to the community. He volunteered with the Spencer Fire Department and dedicated countless hours to civic leadership. He served on the Spencer School Board for nine years, the Clark Electric Board for 15 years, and participated in numerous other boards and committees throughout his life. His commitment to service touched many and helped strengthen the community he cared for so deeply.
Wilmer and Pat were lifelong companions, collecting memories as cherished as souvenirs. They cruised past the glaciers of Alaska, visited Florida, and traveled all the way to Japan for the unforgettable joy of seeing their son during his Navy service. He also enjoyed meeting friends for coffee and treasured any gathering that brought family and friends close.
Those who will forever cherish his memory include his wife, Patricia; his children: DuWayne (Bonnie) Griepentrog of Greenville, Diane (Matthew) Diestler of Neillsville, Dean (Renee) Griepentrog of Marshfield, and Donna Harries of Spencer.
He is further cherished by his 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sister, Bernadine Willner of Janesville, and his sister-in-law, Janice Griepentrog of Spencer.
