Ronald Richard Nelson was born on April 22, 1946, in Winona, Minn., to Andrew C. and Lena C. (Deling) Nelson. He was raised and received his education in Winona, graduating from Winona High School in 1964. Ron was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1965, and served in Germany until his honorable discharge in 1967. He returned home and was united in marriage to Janet L. Ron worked sales and services for agricultural products, with a lifetime desire to own and operate his own farm. After retirement, Ron began driving for Ready Bus out of La Crescent, Minn., where he enjoyed seeing the kids on his school routes. In 2020, they moved to Willard, where he lived on the family farm.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Granton. Ron had many interests and especially loved hunting, fishing, being with his grandchildren and family, and talking to anybody about anything.

Ron will be dearly missed by his wife, Janet, of Willard; two sons: Richard (Mary Costello) of Darien, Ill., and Timothy of Willard; three grandchildren: Margaret, Elliot, and Lydia; his sister, Rose Nelson, of Ham Lake, Minn.; and nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ralph Nelson. In lieu of flowers, Ron’s family requests that donations be given to the Wisconsin Wildlife Federation District 4 West, for the Sportsman’s Lake walkway project.
