Robert Berglund

Robert E. Berglund, 93, Loyal, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023, the 67th anniversary of his marriage to his beloved wife, Florence, at the Clark County Rehabilitation & Living Center, Owen. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran _______ ___ _______ _____ _______ __________ __________ ____ burial followed in the Loyal Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers were John Rodrick Hayman, William Robert Hayman, Rick Dietsche, Gary Rueth, Jackson Dietsche, Chris Berglund, Hoyt Rueth and Saylor Dietsche. Visitation was held at the church, on Friday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

Robert Edwin Berglund was born on May 22, 1930, in Cumberland, to Carl G. and Amelia C. (née Treichel) Berglund. He was raised on a farm in the town of Johnstown, rural Comstock, received his education at Pipe Lake Grade School, and graduated in 1948 from Turtle Lake High School in Turtle Lake. After high school, Bob worked one year in Minnesota, before becoming employed at the Turtle Lake Times in Turtle Lake. He served in the U.S. Army from March 8, 1951, until his honorable discharge on March 7, 1953, attaining the rank of corporal. Bob returned to the Turtle Lake Times. He was united in marriage to Florence J. Rodrick on Dec. 30, 1956, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Following their _______________________________________________________________________________________ In 1968, they purchased the Loyal Tribune and Spencer Record newspapers. In 1969, they purchased the Greenwood Gleaner newspaper and combined them to form the Tribune-Record-Gleaner, (TRG), which they operated until selling the business in 1998. After retiring, they enjoyed traveling and spending their winters in Port Aransas, Texas. _______________________________________________________________________________________ Fence” column for the TRG, which he began writing at the Turtle Lake Times in 1967.

He was a long-time and very active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, was a 58-year member of the Loyal American Legion, a charter member of the Loyal Lions Club and a past president, served on the Loyal Housing Authority from 1969 to 2022, a member of the Loyal Chamber of Commerce for 37 years, served on the Clark County Board of Supervisors for 14 years and was chairman from 1988-1990, was a Golden Member of the Wisconsin Newspaper Association where he served as president from 1982-1983, a member of the National Newspaper Association, and was inducted into the Wisconsin Newspaper Hall of Fame in 2007.

Bob will be dearly missed by three daughters: Jacklyn (Bob) Loos of Loyal, Susan (Mark) Heilman of Holmen and Michelle Berglund of Neillsville; one son, Mark Berglund of DeForest; four grandchildren: Shelby (Gary) Rueth of Loyal, Stephanie (Rick) Dietsche of Loyal, Major William Robert Hayman, M.D. (Cecilia) of Bethesda, Md., and John Rodrick Hayman (Breanna) of Menomonee Falls; seven great-grandchildren: Victoria (Tyler) Steinke, Savanna (Dylan) Tomczak, Jackson Dietsche, Avery, Raelyn and Hoyt Rueth and Saylor Dietsche; one great-great grandson: Grayson Lee Steinke; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Florence, on Oct. 7, 2018; four brothers: Ernest, Benjamin, Carl and Harold Berglund; and one sister, Anna Pufahl.
