1953-2020 Louise Ann Komanec, 67, of Woodbury, Minn., died on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2020. A public memorial mass will be held at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church-Gilman along with inurnment in Meadowbrook Catholic Cemetery at a later date. She was born on April 19, 1953 at the Victory Memorial Hospital in Stanley to the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Prasnicky) Komanec. Louise grew up in the Gilman area and graduated from Gilman High School in 1971. Louise went on to attend the District One Technical Institute in Eau Claire where she studied and completed the General Clerical one year diploma program. She then moved to St. Paul, Minn. where she was employed by the University of Minnesota as a Data Entry Clerk. She was later promoted as their buyer for the Medial Book Store and finally promoted as the Manager of their Health Science Bookstore of where she retired after 40 years of service. She loved coming back to Gilman to visit her parents along with her siblings and her many loved nieces and nephews who she so enjoyed. Some of her hobbies were traveling, cooking, sewing, and listening to music. One of her most memorable trips abroad was her second trip to Czechoslovakia with her father in 1994. She and her father would reminisce about their travels through the country and of all the distant family members they were able to meet. Louise is survived by her siblings, Joe (Lynne) Komanec, John Komanec, Rose Komanec and Tina (Roger) Nichols all of Gilman and George (Roxanne) Komanec of Bloomer; a brother-in-law, Jeff Ahlers of Chippewa Falls; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Joanne Ahlers; sister-in-law, Donna Komanec; a nephew, Brent; and a niece, Krystal. Gerald “Paddy” J. Schneider


1935-2021 Gerald “Paddy” J. Schneider, 85, of Rib Lake, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021 at his home under the care of Hope Hospice. Supervisors. His favorite place was the sugar bush, where he could collect and process maple syrup. He was a leader and driving force for neighborhood projects. He enjoyed fishing in Canada. He was a mighty deer hunter. In his spare time, he enjoyed dancing, playing cards, especially, cribbage and sheepshead. He was also a lifelong contributor to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. He was known for saying “I’m not just a pretty face; I know stuff too”. Gerald is survived by his wife, Adrianne; children, Jane Schneider of Westboro, Jacky (Tim) Peterson of Westboro, Tony (Karen) Schneider of Rib Lake, Linda (Tony) Kochan of Ogema, and Jeannie Logan of Weston; grandchildren, Alex, Jared, Carl, Nikki, Tyler, Derek, Kyle, Zach, Adam, Ashley, Cain, and Cody; 13 great-grandchildren. Gerald is further survived by other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Joseph, and 13 siblings. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Gerald’s name may be given to Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Hemer Funeral Service of Medford and Rib Lake is serving the family. Visitation will take place at Good Shepherd Catholic Church on Saturday, Jan. 16 from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Gerald was born on Dec. 17, 1935 to Michael and Rosa (Judd) Schneider in Rib Lake. He graduated from Rib Lake High School. He married Adrianne Schirmer on June 6, 1959. He farmed his entire life. He took over the family farm at 17 after his father passed away until retirement. 1933-2021 Bette Mae (Russell) Dorava age 87, a 40 year resident of Skanawan Township passed away Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021 at Country Terrace in Tomahawk. The funeral service for Bette will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9 at the Krueger Family Funeral Home. Reverend Jess Wakefield will officiate. Visitation will take place from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Burial will take place in Perkinstown Community Cemetery in Perkinstown. Bette was born Oct. 22, 1933 in Jump River to Edwin and Inga (Petersen) Russell. She married Elmer G. Dorava on Feb. 15, 1953. Together they owned a gas station and garage in Perkinstown until they moved to a small farm in Irma in 1960. Bette especially loved feeding birds, watching wildlife, picking wild berries, her vegetable garden and growing flowers. She was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Merrill. Bette is survived by her five children, Sandra Prebeg of Sun Prairie, Cynthia (John) Schaffer of Tomahawk, Larry (Joyce) Dorava of Rhinelander, Joe (Anne) Dorava of Irma and Edwin Dorava of Represa, Calif.; and ten grandchildren, Melanie Dorava, Jason Dorava, Melissa McGinnis, Alexander Prebeg, Angela (Sam) Bourassa , Joshua Schaffer, Kelly (Kameron) Haugen, Jared (Hannah) Schaffer, Nikolas (Susana) Dorava, and Dylan Dorava. She also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren, Paris Haugen, Emily and Isaac Bourassa, Lucas, Kaitlyn and Jacob Messenlehner and Levi Dorava; two brothers, Ivan (Annette) Russell and Donald (Joan) Russell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; her parents; sisters, Ethel Foster, Rose Sweet, and Helen Wachsmuth. Krueger Family Funeral Home, Tomahawk is assisting the family with arrangements.
