Allen L. Baehr


1943-2020 Allen L. Baehr, 77, of Sun Prairie, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2020 at the UW Hospital in Madison due to complications from bacterial pneumonia. A visitation for Allen will be held Friday, Jan. 1, 2021 from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus Street Sun Prairie with a prayer service at 5 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Jan. 2, at 1 p.m. with visitation at noon at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church in Sun Prairie. Father Donn Haier will preside. Burial will follow at the Sun Prairie Memory Garden Cemetery. A Celebration of Life to be held following the burial at the Big Blue Pulling Shop, Sun Prairie. Allen was born on May 11, 1943 in Abbotsford, the son of Herbert and Virginia (Gilman) Baehr. He graduated from Abbotsford High School and was united in marriage to Shirley Geiger on Sept. 5, 1964 in Colby. Allen and Shirley raised six daughters and one son. They owned and operated a large dairy farm, “Big Blue Acres” in Unity for 31 years before purchasing a smaller farm in Owen. After retiring from farming Allen was a real estate appraiser, licensed general contractor and landlord. He enjoyed tractor pulling for 56 years across the United States with a variety of tractors, most notably, Big Blue. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, family and friends. Allen is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley Baehr of Sun Prairie; two brothers, Roger and Donald Baehr; one sister, Bonnie (Baehr) Lynn; five children, Annette (Jeff) Molitor of Dorchester, Trish (Patrick) Schaefer of Sun Prairie, Sue (Mike) Foley of Marshfield, Jennifer (Corey) Gipp of Hatley, and David (Rachel) Baehr of Sun Prairie; one son-in-law, William Leonhard; 17 grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren. Joseph William Cigan, Sr.

Joseph William Cigan, Sr.


1930-2020 Joe Cigan, 90, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2020 at the Country Terrace in Stanley. A private family service will be held now with a celebration of life to be held at a later date. Joe was born July 17, 1930 to Wasil and Tillie (Telisik) Cigan at home on the family farm in the town of Ruby. Joe received his elementary education at the Ruby School and graduated from Stanley High School in 1948. After completing high school, he attended UW River Falls for one year then returned home to run the family farm. Joe lived on the family farm for 73 years before moving to Stanley in 2003. On Oct. 29, 1955, Joe married Rita Breitzman at the Russian Orthodox Church in Huron. To this union, six children were born. In his early career, Joe sold Badger farm equipment and later Clay farm equipment in Northwest Wisconsin. He then became involved in purchasing and selling cattle which led him to a lifelong career in sales. Joe was also an auctioneer for 30 years. His three sons all became auctioneers and with Joe, formed the Cigan Auction Team. Joe truly enjoyed working with his sons and seeing them grow in their auctioneer abilities. He was also proud of his grandchildren and other family members who assisted in the auctions either by clerking or running the office. Throughout Joe’s career, he showed compassion to those who were in danger of losing their farms and did what he could to help them. Joe served for ten years on both the Chippewa Valley Electric Board of Directors and the Lake Holcombe School Board. Joe is survived by his devoted, loving wife of 65 years, Rita; his six children, Deb (Otis) Gallett of Gilman, Linda Boettcher of Holcombe, Mark (Brenda) Cigan of Holcombe, Laura (Darren) Story of Fond du lac, Tom (Denise) Cigan of Chippewa Falls and Joe Cigan, Jr. of Chippewa Falls. From these six children, came 13 grandchildren, Odessa, Sara, and Brianna, Mathew and Lacey, Derek, Amy and Samantha, Skylar and Kendra, and Ashley, Mariah and Tyler. And to this date, 17 great-grandchildren. Joe is also survived by his sister, Loraine Springer of Barron. 1950-2020 Jerry L. Larson, 70, Medford, a former Townships of Holway and Little Black resident, died on Tuesday, Dec. 22 at Aspirus Care and Rehab, Medford where he had resided for the past three years. There will be a private family only service held in the future with Pastor Amy Heinz officiating. Burial will be at Our Saviours Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Holway with nephews serving as pallbearers. Jerry was born on Oct. 24, 1950 at Medford, the son of Alvin “Tony” and Angeline (Smith) Larson. He attended Holway elementary schools and was a 1969 graduate of Medford High School. After his education, he worked at Post Mfg. in Owen, Weather Shield Mfg. and Hurd Millwork in Medford. He retired from Opportunity Development Center in Marshfield. He enjoyed shooting pool, attending Milwaukee Brewers baseball games and visiting with friends. Jerry was a member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church, Town of Holway. He is survived by his siblings, Karen Larson of Medford, Sharon (Jim) Cicha of Glen Flora, Duane (Debra) Larson of Medford, Janet (James) Sova of Medford and Lester (Tammy) Larson of Eau Claire; brother-in-law, James Bach of Dorchester; nieces and nephews. 1923-2020 Shirley E. Kleist, 97, a Town of Medford resident, died on Saturday, Dec. 26 at Neillsville Care and Rehab, where she had resided for the past three weeks following a stroke. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 31 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Medford with Rev. Rodger Prois officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. Due to COVID concerns, masks will be required for the visitation and services. Interment will take place at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II with grandchildren serving as pallbearers. Shirley was born on Sept. 5, 1923 in the Town of Browning, the daughter of Frank and Alma (Giese) Halopka. She attended Fairfield Grade School, Town of Browning and was a 1943 graduate of Medford High School. Her marriage took place on June 28, 1947 at Community Evangelical Reformed Church, Medford to Wellington “Shorty” H. Kleist and he preceded her in death on March 17, 1989. After her education, she worked in Milwaukee for a period of time. After marriage she was active and co-owner of W.H. Kleist Trucking, Inc. She also worked as a rural mail carrier. She did volunteer work at numerous organizations. She enjoyed fishing, dancing, crafts, gardening, animals, travel, knitting, crocheting, trips to the casino, the Green Bay Packers, spending time with friends and family. She was a member of Community United Church of Christ, Medford and its Woman’s Guild, Medford VFW Auxiliary, Taylor Co. Humane Society, Taylor Co. Historical Society, Chelsea Conservation Club, Chequamegon Bird Club and the Happy Americans Club. Surviving are her children, Cindy (Ed) Pernsteiner of Medford, Vicki (Jim) Lundeen of St. Cloud, Minn., Sally Sadowska of Granton and Jay (Ginger) Kleist of Medford; grandchildren, Christopher, Chad and Clinton Pernsteiner, Sean and Andrea Lundeen, Erick and Tim Sadowska, Kelly Jochimsen and Jake Kleist; 15 great-grandchildren and a sister, Ann Gebauer of Rib Lake. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and siblings, Alma Fiebke, Lydia, Frank, Harry, Earl, Ray and Gene Halopka. akowski 1938-2020 Jerome “Jerry” F. Makowski, 82, a Township of Hammel resident, died on Sunday, Dec. 20 at his residence under the loving care of his family and Hope Hospice. The family would like to do a celebration of life gathering for Jerry at a later date. He was born on Feb. 5, 1938 at Chicago, Ill., the son of Thadius and Frances (Nozicka) Makowski. He attended Cicero, Ill. elementary schools and was a graduate of Fenwick High School, Chicago. His marriage to Audrey J. Green took place on Apr. 13, 2008 at Nevada. After his education, he entered the US Air Force and was stationed in Germany. After the service, he returned to Chicago to run the family business, Real Sausage Company, until his retirement in 2002. He then moved to the Township of Hammel. In retirement he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, remodeling, wood working and making radio controlled airplanes. He was a member of the Highland Flyers. Surviving are his wife, Audrey J. Green of the Town of Hammel; children, Nicole (Chris) Durbin of Chicago and Danielle Makowski of Denver, Colo.; step-children, Laura (Bruce) Ward of Mackinaw, Ill. and Gary (Ellen) Green of Fla. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; along with his sister, Eileen Witsman of Chicago. Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter, Patty Makowski; step-son, James Green; and a brother, Louis Makowski. offmann 1945-2020 Warren Lee Hoffmann, 75, Medford, born on Dec. 4, 1945, was called to Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Dec. 19, 2020. A service will be held for Warren on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021 at Zion Ev. Lutheran church with Rev. Richard Russow officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11a.m. Urnbearers will be Alexus and Michael Dohrwardt. Interment will be at Zion Ev. Lutheran Cemetery, Stetsonville. His parents were Adolf and Eleanora (Berner) Hoffmann of the City of Medford and formerly of Town of Holway. Warren grew up in the Town of Holway on the family farm and also attended grade school in the Town of Holway. He moved to the City of Medford with his parents, after they retired from the family farm. Warren worked at Black River Industries for many years and enjoyed his job very much. He had a strong Christian faith and was a lifelong member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stetsonville. Warren was well known to so many others to always have a smile on his face no matter what, and could light up any room with the sound of his giggles and laughter. Warren enjoyed church, books, bingo, music, and spending a lot of time with his family, especially his nieces and nephew who he adored. Warren is survived by his niece, Rebecca (Jamie) Dohrwardt; great-niece, Alexus (Dustin Kayhart) Dohrwardt, great-nephew, Michael (Gabby Kummer) Dohrwardt; and many cousins. Dennis Fosterling

1958-2020 Dennis D. Fosterling, 62, of Thorp, passed away at his home with his family by his side, on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020. Visitation was held at Thorp Funeral Home on Monday, Dec. 21 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. A celebration of Dennis’ life will be held at a later date. Dennis Duane Fosterling was born on June 3, 1958 in Milwaukee, the son of Donald D. and Lucy (Duvall) Fosterling. As a young child, Dennis’ family moved to Wausau where he was raised and received his education. After completing his education, Dennis moved out west to Montana where he worked for the forestry department for several years. He then started his own business, Another World Production, setting up light and sound systems around the country for concerts. Dennis moved back to Thorp in 1984, and worked at the family dry cleaning business, Tri-County Dry Cleaning. He was united in marriage to Evie M. Jacque on June 25, 1987 at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp. Dennis worked at Hurd Millwork in Medford for 15 years, and then, in 2005, he went to work at Grace Lutheran Foundation in Eau Claire, as a lead maintenance technician, until his passing. He had many interests, but especially enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, tinkering with things around the yard, and helping out others in the community in his spare time. Dennis was a member of the Roosevelt Rod & Gun Club, the Circle T Saddle Club, and the National Rifle Association. He is survived by his wife, Evie, of Thorp; four daughters, Keisha (Bill) Adams of Williston, N.D., Megan (Dayne) Shemick of Lake Hallie, Chelsey Fosterling (friend Brandon Baures) of Thorp, and Robin Fosterling (friend Matt Zimmerman) of Thorp; six grandchildren, Colton, Brodon, Kieran, Connlon, Damion, and Brynlee; one brother, Mike Fosterling of Stetsonville; and one sister, Tenna (Darrel) Firnstahl of Medford; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.
