Cadott finding a rhythm each time on the court

Since they just started out the season, the Cadott volleyball program is still discovering how to work together and what it takes to win games.

Aug. 26 vs. Frederic (L 0-2)

In their first outing, the Hornets hosted Frederic, but couldn’t get the momentum going and dropped the sets, 25-18 and 25-10.

Senior Haley Mathison led the way, with 7 kills, while sophomore Sydney Spaeth had 3 kills, sophomore Olivia Blanchette ended with 6 digs and senior Karlee Davis had 7 assists.

“We had a slow start to the evening, as we figure out rotations and find out what clicks,” said coach Kaitee Kozial.

Aug. 26 vs. Neillsville (L 0-2)

The Hornets then took on Neillsville, but again, Cadott couldn’t come up with the win and saw the matches go to the visitors, 25-9 and 25-15.

Mathison again led, with 10 kills, while senior Kennedy Nerdrum had 5 kills. Davis finished with 19 assists, 8 digs and 3 aces, with freshman Kollyns Zastrow coming away with 8 digs, 3 kills and 2 aces.

“As the night progressed, you could see the girls really start to get comfortable out on the court and find a rhythm together,” said Kozial.

Aug. 29-30 vs. UW-Stout Sprawl (W 4-3)

A few days later, Cadott was in action for the UWStout Sprawl, where they started out in a competitive match against Rice Lake. That ended in Rice Lake’s favor, but shows that the team had grit and determination.

“That determination carried on to our other three matches of the day, where we beat Turtle Lake, Athens and Superior, in two sets, each match,” said Kozial.

The next day of the Sprawl, again saw the Hornets struggling to get in tune with one another, but they managed to pull off a 2-0 victory over Somerset.

Mathison carried off 65 kills, from the weekend, while Davis racked up an impressive 123 assists and 10 aces. Spaeth ended with 24 kills and 9 aces, and Zastrow had 23 kills and 38 digs.

“We learned a lot this weekend, on tweaks we need to make and what’s working well for us,” said Kozial.
