Sox lose a nail biter
Going into the State tournament, Aug. 15, at Hayward, the No. 2 Cadott Red Sox Baseball team faced off with a familiar foe, No. 7 Osseo, in the final eight. The Merchants were none other than the team who ended the playoff run for Cadott, last year.
This time around, the Sox were going to make it as hard as they could on Osseo, but the Merchants took a commanding 4-0 lead, after eight and a half innings. Cadott refused to go down without a fight and scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth.
Bases were loaded, but the Sox couldn’t capitalize and the game went to Osseo, 4-3, putting an end to Cadott’s year.
“We had a great season,” said Danielson. “It would have been nice to win a couple more games at the end, but we took another huge step forward this year.”
Gio Basile was on the mound for the Sox, going six innings, and giving up 5 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 3 batters. Jack Redwine also took a turn, going two innings, while allowing a hit and 2 runs, and punching out 4. Zack Thiesse also was at the helm, for a time, striking out 1.
Redwine, Luke Erickson, Sam Feck, Luke Burzynski, Chad Kron and Cole Perlberg, all had a hit, offensively.
“I couldn’t be more happy with the group of players we have on the team,” said Danielson. “They strive to get better every week. I expect the majority of the team back next year, as we continue the quest for a State championship.”
Danielson and the Red Sox appreciate all the sponsors throughout the year, for the fans and community, for the support they received this year.
“We will be back next season,” said Danielson.
