Loyal FACS and FCCLA students have a busy winter

The Loyal High School family and consumer sciences (FACS) and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) students have participated in many projects and community service initiatives this winter.

Our first project was a huge cookie undertaking. We committed to providing Christmas cookies to go along with the Loyal Lions’ Christmas food trays. Students mixed, baked, decorated and bagged over 1,000 cookies to go along with the fruit and cheese provided by the Lions members. It was so much fun decorating the cookies in so many different ways, and it all started with a round cookie. Molasses cookies, peanut blossoms and Christmas M& M cookies were included in the package.

Besides the donated cookies, we also sold about 50 dozen cookies to faculty and staff to help make their Christmas preparations easier. All totaled, nearly 1,800 cookies were made in the weeks before break. Thanks to Nasonville Dairy for the donation of butter and King Arthur Flour’s Bake for Good program for the flour donation to make the project possible. The kids were so proud of their cookies.

Once a month, our FCCLA members sell ice cream to raise money for a designated community project. This year’s recipient will be the Loyal Food Pantry. Yummy flavors lead to some long lines at times, but the wait is always worth it when you can walk away with your favorite ice cream.

The Nutrition on Weekends program recipients got a boost in their weekly food package. Foods 2 students made dinner rolls, and each student received a dozen to take home and enjoy. Once again, we thank King Arthur Flour. Besides the projects finished, over more than 20 FCCLA members are preparing their projects and presentations for the Region 2 competitive events to be held at UW-Stout on Feb. 21. Areas of competition include repurpose and redesign, job interview, career investigation, teach and train, interior design, digital stories for change, early childhood education, public policy advocate and community service project. Good luck to all students as they prepare. Results will be shared after the events have been evaluated.
