Granton, Greenwood teams take part in Pittsville track and field meet

Competing against teams of similar size, the Granton track and field team placed second while the Greenwood track team took fourth at an invite held in Pittsville on May 2. Numerous athletes from both teams managed to solidly place within the top eight to earn points, with a few first-place finishes earned by some individuals.

Taking an individual win in the triple jump for the Bulldogs was Faustina Thomas, who leapt a distance of 29’3” in the event to take first. She also placed fifth in both the long jump (13’3”) and in the 400m dash (1:08.4) and competed alongside Dolorosa Thomas, Maya McConkey and Anna Kayhart in the 4x400m relay. The team took second place in the relay with their combined time of 5:15.47.

Other individual results for the Granton girls are as follows: Lizzy Reinart, 2nd, high jump, 4’4”, 5th, discus, 61’8”, 6th, 800m run, 3:18.73; Anna Kayhart, 2nd, triple jump, 28’1.25”, 4th, 100m hurdles, 21.78, 5th, 1600m run, 7:17.21; Olivia Piskow, 2nd, discus, 83’1”, 6th, shot put, 23’8.75”; Alexis Pongratz, 3rd, high jump, 3’10”, 4th, 800m run, 3:03.77, 4th, triple jump, 25’2.5”; Dolorosa Thomas, 4th, 300m hurdles, 1:00.44, 6th, long jump, 13’; Maya McConkey, 7th, 200m dash, 31.85, 8th, long jump, 12’9”.

Two competitors for the Granton boys track and field team also placed at Pittsville. Wyatt Karl took second in the discus with a throw of 88’1” and third in the shot put by throwing for a distance of 33’1.75”. Alex Gardner took his placings in running events, finishing third in the 400m dash (56.08) and fifth in the 100m dash (12.55).

For the Greenwood track and field team, both the boys and the girls teams took fourth overall. Leading the girls team were two first place finishes by Lauren Ingold and Katlund Etlicher. Ingold took first in the shot put with a throw of 30’9.5” while Etlicher ran a 15:53.58 in the 3200m run for her win. Ingold also took fourth in the discus (66’8”) and helped the 4x100m relay team (Alyseah Anderson, Ella Reimer, Ricarda Goetze) take third with a time of 1:04.52. The 4x200m relay team of Kia Abel, Candela Soto, Sarah Reiff and Kayla Grambsch also took third with a time of 2:06.17.

Other individual results for the Greenwood girls are as follows: Kia Abel, 2nd, 300m hurdles, 56.48, 2nd, 100m hurdles, 19.73; Bria Thomas, 3rd, 100m hurdles, 21.74, 5th, 300m hurdles, 1:02.23; 3rd, Kayla Grambsch, 300m hurdles, 58.97, 5th, 100m hurdles, 21.83; Sarah Reiff, 6th, long jump, 13’, 7th, shot put, 23’7”, 7th, 100m dash, 14.54.

The Greenwood boys had a fewer individuals place at Pittsville, but those individuals managed to score near the top in several events. Taking second place was the 4x800m relay team of Andy Mitchell, Avrey Horvath, Hunter Ellis and Cody Eckes, which ran the course in 11:13.68 to earn the placing.

Individual results for the Greenwood boys are as follows: Ashtin Palms, 2nd, 300m hurdles, 44.17, 3rd, 110m hurdles, 19.85, 4th, 200m dash, 25.78; Christian Thomas, 2nd, 110m hurdles, 19.04, 3rd, 300m hurdles, 48.67, 5th, long jump, 16’5”; Avrey Horvath, 3rd, 3200m run, 11:04.19; Hunter Ellis, 7th, 400m dash, 1:03.83.

The Granton girls took second place among the seven teams at the invite on May 2 with 95.5 points. Pittsville took first (146), Assumption was third (84), Greenwood finished fourth with 79.5 points, Pacelli was fifth (60), Columbus Catholic was sixth (44) and John Edwards took seventh (32).
