Granton, Spencer, Loyal compete at Neillsville track meet

Taking advantage of the sunny, warm weather, the Neillsville School District opted to move the outdoor track meet scheduled for April 16 to the day before, as the forecast called for rain.

The April 15 Meurett Invitational welcomed athletes from nine local schools to Neillsville High School, including Granton, Loyal and Spencer. In order to score points for their team, athletes had to place within the top eight in their respective events. Athletes achieving that feat were as follows.

Granton Anna Kayhart placed eighth in the girls 100m hurdles with a time of 18.81 seconds and fifth in the girls triple jump with a distance of 30’. The girls 4x100m relay team consisting of Kayhart, Jordan Berg, Maya McConkey and Faustina Thomas took sixth at 58.53.

Loyal Girls – The 4x100m relay team won with a time of 54.93 seconds. Team members were Molly Zvolena, Hope Peroshek, Noelle Teschner and Summer Smith. That same group of ladies placed second in the 4x200m relay, with a time of 1:56.92. Peroshek also won the discus event, with a throw of 97’7.5”, well exceeding the next closest throw of 85’3”.

Olivia Nikolai took second in the pole vault at 8’6”. Zvolena placed fourth in the triple jump at 30’0.5” and fifth in the long jump at 14’6”. Annika Schley took fifth in the 800m run at 2:51.09. Olivia Nikolai tied for fifth place in the 100m hurdles at 18.66. Gwen LaMarr also took fifth, in the 300m hurdles at 1:02.03. Summer Smith took sixth in the triple jump at 29’7”. Addison Holm placed eighth in the 800m run at 2:58.74. Peroshek took eighth in the 100m dash at 14.43 seconds.

Boys — Connor Genteman won the 800m run with a time of 2:02.92. He also placed third in the 1600m run with a time of 4:44.20. Bryce Deegan took first in the triple jump, with a distance of 39’2”. Payton Tsai was part of a three-way tie for third place in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 9’. Jaden Smith placed fourth in the shot put and Preston Farmer placed seventh, with throws of 38’ and 36’3”, respectively. Jaden Smith also took sixth in the discus at 102’2.5”.

The boys team also saw success on the relay front. The 4x400m relay team took fourth with a time of 4:41.20. Team members were Genteman, Deegan, Jaden Smith and Devon Roehl. The 4x100m relay team took eighth with a time of 53.93. Team members were Preston Farmer, Jacob Schmidt, Jerome Buchanan and Eli Zettler. That same group took sixth in the 4x200m relay, with a time of 1:52.24.

Spencer Girls – Autumn Davis took sixth in the 100m dash at 14.37 and Rachel Nieman was right behind her, coming in seventh at 14.42. In the long jump, Caitlin Clark finished sixth at 14’4.5”.

The 4x100m relay team took fifth at 58.34. Team members were Tahneya Anderson, Brooklyn Baumgarten, Nieman and Alicia Ostricki.

Boys — Breckin Miller won the high jump at 5’9” and the pole vault at 12’, and took second in the 110m hurdles at 16.10. The 4x100m relay team took fourth at 49.69, with team members of Alexander Baumgarten, Mason Dieringer, Logan Ehlert and Efrain Olguin-Cano. Mathers McHone took sixth in the 800m run with a time of 2:31.67. Sam Helgestad took seventh in the discus throw, with a throw of 100’0.5”.

Team scores The Loyal teams each finished fifth, the girls out of nine teams and the boys out of eight teams. The Spencer boys took sixth and the Spencer girls took seventh. The Granton girls took eighth.

Point totals were as follows: Girls – Bloomer 185.5, Stanley-Boyd 113, Neillsville 92.5, Owen-Withee 91, Loyal 71.5, Auburndale 63.5, Spencer 12, Granton 8, Thorp 2.

Boys — Stanley-Boyd 211, Neillsville 142, Owen-Withee 86.5, Auburndale 80, Loyal 50, Spencer 39, Bloomer 38.5, Thorp 27.
