Carl R. Heyder, 85, died peacefully Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King.

Carl was born May 28, 1938, to the late Carl and Deliaha (Richards) Heyder, in Cornell.

He grew up in the area, attended the local grade school and graduated from high school. Carl later attended Chippewa Valley Technical College, with an emphasis in electronics and multimedia technology.

Carl was a part-time radio announcer at WWIB, a local Christian radio station in Cornell.

He was inducted into the U.S. Air Force April 18, 1961, and was honorably discharged Feb. 4, 1964. During his time of service, Carl was stationed stateside, as well as abroad.

While stationed in the Philippines, Carl met Segundina Adop and they later married. The couple would later separate.

Following his discharge, Carl settled in Cornell, and began a family. He subsequently relocated to Stevens Point, where he became employed with the University of Stevens Point. When an opportunity with the Stevens Point School System became available, Carl took the opportunity to offer technical multimedia support, until retirement in 2003.

He married Ruth C. Lewis, June 19, 1987. The married couple resided within the Stevens Point area. Carl and Ruth moved in 2002, and settled to a cozy country home near Junction City.

Carl will be remembered for his helpful persona and positive outlook on life. In the year of 1972, Carl gave his life to Jesus and became a born-again Christian. From that point on, he had an astounding love for Christ and a selfless love for others.

He enjoyed the simple things in life and the serenity of the Wisconsin wilderness. In his spare time, Carl enjoyed gardening, fishing and long nature walks.

Carl also had a fascination with aviation. He would work countless hours, building model airplanes, in addition to building and flying radio-controlled aircraft.
