Michael “Mike” Lee Wetzel, 73, Holcombe, passed away Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024, in Dorchester.

Michael was born June 19, 1950, in Lake Forest, Ill.

He was raised there until moving to Waukegan, Ill., where he began his career as an electrician at Hucker Electric.

Mike married the love of his life, Eileen Wetzel (Spindler), in Winthrop Harbor, Ill., April 16, 1983. The couple moved to Rusk County, in 1986.

He was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran and proud patriot of our country.

Mike and Eileen owned and operated M.E. Master Electric, Route 66 Gas & Kicks, and High Tech Steel Builders.

He was a member of the Wisconsin Electrical Trades Council and was very active within the local community. He loved cruising on his Harley Davidson and in his ’92 Corvette, and belonged to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Cornell.

Michael was the best Pop Pop to his beloved grandchildren.

He is survived by his sons – Erik Johnson, Ladysmith, Jesse (Jory) Wetzel, Minneapolis, Minn., Sean LePitre, South Carolina, and Cody (Maygen) Russell, Ladysmith; daughters – Kate (David) Poepping, Salem, and Amanda Hansen (Matthew Flater), Holcombe; brothers – Jeffery Wetzel, Keith Kruse and Kurt (Karen) Kruse; sisters – Kristen (Ron) Belzer and Kari Kruse; sister-in-law – Linda Wetzel; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife – Eileen Wetzel; parents – Ervin Wetzel, Margaret Miller, Earl and Joyce Kruse; brothers – Keith, Jeremy and Bradley Wetzel; and son-in-law – Auhston Hansen.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of gifts to the family, please make a donation to the Holcombe Area Veterans Memorial, in Mike’s honor.
