Charles “Chuck” L. Ravenscroft, 70, Vero Beach, Fla., and formerly of Cornell, passed away Thursday, Jan. 18, 2024, at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach, Fla.

Chuck was born Feb. 12, 1953, to Willard and Gladys (Rhude) Ravenscroft, in La Crosse.

He grew up in Necedah, and attended and graduated from Necedah High School.

Chuck married Karen Ravenscroft,

Oct. 13, 1973, and to this union, they had two sons, Kenneth and Kevin; they later divorced.

He relocated to Cornell, and later, married Melanie (Dressel) Ravenscroft, Sept. 26, 2009.

Chuck lived in Onalaska, for many years, and worked for Kwik Trip, as a service technician for their petroleum division and as a security officer for the La Crosse Civic Center. He later moved back to his hometown, Necedah, where he began his own business, American Petroleum.

He eventually sold the business and continued to work as a petroleum service technician, up until he retired from Walt’s Petroleum, of Schofield, in 2017.

Chuck and Melanie retired to Vero Beach, Fla., to enjoy the warmer weather and retirement.

He was a jack-of-all-trades and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone. He was always moving, whether he was working, building something or helping a neighbor.

Chuck was known for his smile, enjoyed a good laugh and spending time with others. He could always be seen sitting in the sun, enjoying his time camping or just taking joy in helping others.

He is survived by his sons – Kenneth (Kathy) Ravenscroft, Fremont, and Kevin (Heather) Ravenscroft, Prairie du Sac; stepsons – Jake (Kari) Hetchler, Ladysmith, and Tucker (Janet) Hetchler, Holcombe; grandchildren – Kole, Kody, Maverick, Isaac and Grant; stepgrandchildren – Macy, Quinlynn and Savannah; brothers – Larry, Hillsboro, Richard (Donna), Mauston, Robert, Scottsville, Texas, Jim, Madison, and John (Louise), Fort Pierce, Fla.; sister-in-law – Elaine Ravenscroft, Hillsboro; and many nieces; nephews; other relatives and many close friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Melanie; his parents Willard and Gladys; brother Ronald; sister Nancy Georgeson; sister-in-law(s) Donna Ravenscroft and Patsy Ravenscroft; brother-in-law – Donald Georgeson; nephews – Tom Ravenscroft and Don Ravenscroft; and fatherin-law – Duane Dressel. Services will be held at noon, Friday, Feb. 2, at Borton-Leiser Funeral Home in Cornell, with Pastor Greg Sima officiating. Visitation will start at 10 a.m., and go until the time of service, at noon.

Burial will be in the Cornell Cemetery, following the service.
