Scott H. Pomeroy, 76, Cornell, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023, at House of the Dove, in Marshfield, after spending the entire day surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren.

Scott was born March 2, 1947, in Black River Falls, the son of Raymond and Jean (Boyer) Pomeroy.

He graduated from Black River Falls High School in 1965, and joined the National Guard.

Scott married his high school sweetheart, Debbie Steinke, Aug. 3, 1968, in Black River Falls.

He attended UW-River Falls and graduated with a teaching degree in social studies. Scott taught for the Cornell School District for 33 years, and retired in 2005. Following his retirement, Scott substitute taught in surrounding communities, for the subsequent 10 years.

Scott loved the outdoors. He was an avid musky fisherman, and passed his love of fishing on to his son and grandson. He was always up for a fishing or hunting trip with his buddies.

He shared his love of sports, by coaching and refereeing football, basketball and softball, for many years. He loved watching all Wisconsin sports teams, and planned his daily schedule around game time.

In his retirement, Scott traveled countless miles, attending his grandchildren’s activities. He loved to brag about their accomplishments and spent countless hours, texting them, giving them advice and keeping them in line. They were his proudest accomplishment.

He is survived by his wife – Debbie; one daughter – Angie (Tracy) Klass, Sparta; one son – Mark (Stacy) Pomeroy, Phillips; bonus son – Mark (Amanda) Jiskra, Chippewa Falls; one brother – Don (Judy) Pomeroy, Black River Falls; one sister – JoAnn Luke, Lake Delton; six grandchildren – Emily, Paige, Olivia, Tye, Jaycee and Paula.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws – Elvin and Doris Lee; and sister-in-law – Mollie Harrington.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 2, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Cornell. Friends may call Friday, Dec. 1, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Borton-Leiser Funeral Home in Cornell, and 10 a.m., Saturday, until the time of service.

Scott’s family would like to thank the eighth floor (north) staff at the Marshfield Medical Center, for their exceptional care. They also want to express their appreciation to House of the Dove in Marshfield. Their professionalism and compassion was remarkable.
