Jean Marie Knitter, 93, Cadott, passed away peacefully, with family, Friday, Aug. 18, 2023, at Wissota Place in Chippewa Falls.

Jean was born Jan. 17, 1930, to Arnold and Amelia Tannler, in Chippewa Falls.

She grew up in Cadott, and attended and graduated from Cadott High School in 1946; following high school, she attended UW-Eau Claire and in 1951, she attended Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Davenport, Iowa.

Jean Tannler married Donald “Duck” Knitter in 1955, and following marriage, Jean worked as a registered nurse for Midelfort Clinic and later, the Cadott Medical Center, until her retirement in 2008.

Jean enjoyed spending time with family and friends, shopping and gardening, and she was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, where she was a church organist, St. Mary’s Circle, Cadott Women’s Club, Cadott Historical Society and Cadott VFW Auxiliary.

She is survived by her children – Suzanne Berseth, Brian (Laura) Knitter and Craig (Denise) Knitter; grandchildren – Marisa Berseth, Brian “Chip” (Sarah) Berseth, Nicholas Knitter, Craig Rykal and Kelly Rykal; great-grandchildren – Grace Berseth, Elizabeth “Libby” Knitter, Hailey Rykal, Cailyn Rykal and Jaxson Reynolds; sisters-in-law – Delores

Kenealy and Lynn Frank; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband – Donald “Duck” Knitter; son – Kirk Knitter; and brothers – Bob (Evelyn) Tannler and Jack (LaVonne) Tannler.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 24, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Cadott, with Father William Felix officiating. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m., until the time of service, at 11:30 a.m., Thursday morning, at the church.

Inurnment will be at the Brooklawn Cemetery in Cadott, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Rose Parish or the Cadott Area Historical Society.
