Marjorie “Marge” J. Lorenz, 85, Mystic, Conn., passed away Thursday, Oct. 6, 2022, in her sleep.

Marge was born Dec. 18, 1936, in Cadott, the daughter of the late William and Mildred Chmelik.

She was the wife of an Army and Navy veteran; in 1967, they founded a successful electrical contracting business, A/Z Electric Inc., in Ledyard, Conn.

The company continued to grow through the years, and today, is recognized as A/Z Corporation, an employee-owned company, with multiple offices throughout the Northeast.

She was strong beyond words, but her heart was always filled with compassion, kindness and love. She never wavered in supporting her special needs daughter, MaryJo, for the past 58 years. Marge was resolute in visiting her daughter at the DDS Group Home multiple times a week, to provide an abundance of love and care.

Marge enjoyed cooking, dining, playing cards, and spending time with her family and friends. Holidays with her family were always a special time of year for her.

She is survived by her sisters – Rosemary Steinmetz, Judy Gindt and Deb Zimmerman; her daughter and son-in-law – Kim and Steve Goodwin; her son and daughter-in-law – Perry and Felicia Lorenz; her daughter – MaryJo Lorenz; brotherin- law – Thomas Mahoney; and four wonderful grandchildren – Michael, Kara, Kent and Warren.

She was preceded in death by her husband – Edward Lorenz; her sister – Karen Mahoney; and her sister – Dorthey Johnson.

A celebration of life will be held from 4-6 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 16, at the Mystic Hilton in Mystic, Conn.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity in her memory.
