Charles “Chuck” S. Hagen Sr.
Charles “Chuck” S. Hagen Sr., passed away Monday, March 21, 2022, at his home in Chippewa Falls, at the tender age of 86.
Charles was born March 30, 1935, in Minneapolis, Minn., the third of four children, to John and Gertrude Hagen.
At 16, he struck out on his own and traveled to Idaho, to work as a farm hand, because of an interest in agriculture. After a year in Idaho, he returned to Minnesota, to enlist in the Army, at the age of 17.
Following boot camp, he was deployed to Korea, where he served as an MP. Returning from Korea, he was stationed at different Army bases, until he was discharged after his fouryear enlistment.
Shortly after his discharge, he met Karen Peterson, of Anoka, Minn., and before long, he married Karen and had two boys.
After a few years, he moved to Wisconsin, with his two sons, and met his second wife, Lorraine Hanson, and her three daughters. Together, they formed a “Hagen Bunch” family.
They purchased and ran the Cornell Courier newspaper for approximately 10 years. After this time, his “restless spirit” took over and they moved to several different towns in northern Wisconsin, eventually settling in Chippewa Falls.
It was here, after 30 years of marriage, they finished raising their children, who scattered to the winds.
He eventually married Helen Zweifelhofer, of Bloomer. Chuck’s restless spirit took over again, and they lived in Chippewa Falls and Arizona, at different times, including a stretch of time living in a motor home as snowbirds. After a bit, they settled in Chippewa Falls again, where they have remained for the last few years.
He is survived by his wife – Helen; son – Charles, and his children, Sara, Josh, Tyler and Taylor; son – Scott, and his son, Stephen (Leah); Susan (Kenny) Hartzell, and her children, Carrie, Sherri and Jeremy; Dawn Resling, and her son, Michael; and Donna (Larry) Larsen, and her children, Jennessa, Kara and Chad; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Chuck was loved and will be greatly missed.
