LaVerne “Pete” Lindner


Laverne J. “Pete” Lindner, 85, Loyal, passed away in Marshfield, on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2025. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Greenwood. Rev. Emmanuel Famiyeh will officiate, and burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Greenwood American Legion Post 238. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary service at 8:45 a.m.
LaVerne John Lindner was born on Aug. 5, 1940, in Marshfield, to Casper and Marie A. (Keller) Lindner. He was raised on the family farm in Greenwood, received his education at St. Mary Catholic School, and graduated from Greenwood High School in 1958. After high school, Pete farmed with his father until entering the U.S. Army on Oct. 15, 1961, and later served in the Wisconsin Army National Guard until his honorable discharge on March 19, 1966. He was united in marriage to Joan M. Weyer on Oct. 13, 1962, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Loyal, and took over the operation of his family farm until retiring in 1998 and moving to Loyal. They resided in Loyal until moving to Marshfield in June 2025.
Pete was an active member of both St. Mary Catholic Church in Greenwood and St. Anthony Catholic Church in Loyal, where he sang in the choir, and was a lector and usher. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Lady of Fatima Council #4963 where he was a Grand Knight.
He had many interests, but especially loved fishing, reading, playing cards, dancing with Joan in their younger years, and hunting with his sons, grandsons, brothers, nephews, cousins, and friends at the Lindner hunting shack up north.
Pete will be dearly missed by his wife, Joan, of Marshfield; his children: Roseann Shaw of Eau Claire, Pam (Lee) Alt of Marshfield, Daniel Lindner of Loyal, Scott (Karen) Lindner of Stratford, and Tammi (Jeff) Timmler of Chili; eight grandchildren: Kelsey (John) O’Branovich, Benjamin Alt, Jordan Lindner, Blaire Lindner, Allison Lindner, Ashley Lindner, Cole Timmler, and Devlin Timmler; three great-grandchildren: Bryson, Easton, and Rogan; one step great-granddaughter, Lillyann; two sisters: Jeanette Sullivan of Dumfries, Va., and Dorothy Wessell of Sheboygan; two brothers: Donald (Mary Ann) Lindner and Richard (Bonnie) Lindner, both of Greenwood; sister-in-law: Shirley Lindner of Loyal; brother-in-law: Henry Janezich of Willard; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Carl and Arthur Lindner; and four sisters: Elaine “Sis” Herdrich, Jacqueline “Jackie” Lindner, Irene “Boutz” Wilke, and Shirley Janezich.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given toward the Rosary mission, Our Lady’s Rosary Makers, which he made Rosaries for.
