Makayla Horning

Makayla D. Horning, 9 years, 9 months and 1 day, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, May 11, 2023. Visitation was held at the Green Grove Mennonite Fellowship Center in Owen, on Monday, May 15, 2023, from 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 16, at Pine Grove Mennonite Church, in Granton, with Bishop David Martin, Nevin Horning, Steven Hoover and Paul Wesley Oberholtzer officiating. Burial took place in Pine Grove Mennonite Cemetery. Pallbearers were LeonRay Newswanger, Brenton Horning, Darren Horning and Jeremy Horning.

Makayla Dawn Horning was born on Aug. 10, 2013, in Greenwood, the daughter of Keith H. and Joanna W. (née Shirk) Horning. She was raised on the family farm south of Greenwood, and attended Bobwhite Mennonite Parochial School. Makayla was a precious girl who was always singing and loved to take care of the little children.

She will be dearly missed by her parents, Keith and Joanna Horning; her siblings: Jennifer (LeonRay) Newswanger, Brenton (Carolyn) Horning, Darren, Jeremy, Kaitlyn, Kendra, Jalisa, Jannalyn and Cordell Horning; one niece, Kyra Newswanger; two nephews, Trevyn Newswanger and Landon Horning; her maternal grandparents: Warren and Esther Shirk; her paternal grandparents: Leon and Edna Horning; and her maternal great-grandparents: John and Edna Weaver.
