Gordon “Gordy” Haselow Gordon “Gordy” Haselow

Gordon A. “Gordy” Haselow, 81, Loyal, passed away at home on Wednesday, April 19, 2023. A private graveside service was held on Friday, April 28, 2023, in the Lutheran Cemetery in Loyal.

Gordon Albert Haselow was born on July 1, 1941, in Spokeville (rural Loyal), to Albert C. and Violet D. (Gretzner) Haselow. He was raised on the family farm, and received his education in the Loyal area, graduating from Loyal High School in 1959. After high school, Gordy voluntarily entered the U.S. Army Wisconsin National Guard on June 27, 1959, and served until his honorable discharge on Dec. 12, 1963. During his time in the National Guard, he completed the farm short course at UW-Madison. Gordy was united in marriage to Marlene L. Hoefs on Oct. 5, 1963, at Zion Lutheran Church in Stratford. He continued to serve in the U.S. Army Reserve until May 31, 1967. They took over the operation of his parents’ farm, where they raised their two sons. In 1999, they sold the farm to their son, Steve, and moved to Loyal.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he was the custodian for five years. He was the clerk for the Town of Sherman for 20 years, served on the Clark County Board for 20 years, and served on the Loyal School Board for 10 years.

Gordy had many interests. He was honored to guide his community by serving on town, school and county boards. He loved the 280 acres of land and the many animals that became known as Spruce Line Farms. But he especially loved his family. Gordy was happiest when he was surrounded by his wife, his sons, his daughters-in-law, his grandchildren and great-grandchild.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Marlene, of Loyal; his two sons: Steve (Sandra) Haselow of Loyal, and David (Brenda) Haselow of Madison; four grandchildren: Eric (Megan) Haselow, Austin Haselow, Ellie Haselow and Grant Haselow; one great-grandson: Russell Haselow; two sisters: Marliss (John) Paradies of Cornell, and Veryl (Cliff) Sackett of Fergus Falls, Minn.; one brother-in-law: Eugene Querin of Medford; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Gordy was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Carol Querin. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cuddiefh.com. Cuddie Funeral Home, Loyal, is assisting the family with arrangements.
