Eldore Humke Eldore Humke

Eldore Hildore Humke, 99, Loyal, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at Clark County Rehabilitation and Living Center, Owen. Memorial services will be announced by the family at a later date.

Eldore was born July 26, 1923, in Greenwood. He attended Decker Elementary School and Greenwood High School. Eldore was united in marriage to Violet Kuester on Sept. 20, 1947. She preceded him in death on Jan. 19, 1999.

For 50 years, Eldore farmed with his family at Echo Lane Dairy in the town of Warner near Greenwood. Eldore served on the Board of Directors for the Rural Electric Co-op as the treasurer for 11 years, and for two years as vice president. Eldore served on the education board for Benjamin School. Eldore organized the antique tractor display for the 2005 Farm Technology Days. Eldore was a lifetime member, sang in the men’s choir and served on the church council for Emmanuel United Church of Christ. He also sang harmony with his twin brother, Elmer, at many weddings and funerals over the years. His favorite song was “The Lord’s Prayer.” Eldore enjoyed woodworking, bird watching, hunting with family, traveling and visiting with friends and neighbors. Eldore was a kind, humble and honorable man who was well-loved and respected by his family and his community.

We, Eldore’s family, would also like to express that in the days since our father’s passing, we are so grateful for all the wonderful, heartwarming stories we are hearing. Through all the tears and laughter, what we felt from everyone was the respect shown for Eldore for his kindness and honorability. Eldore gave his children a wonderful life and we always told him that we were blessed to have him as our dad. We miss him more each day, but are comforted by the feeling that he is once again in the arms of our mother, Violet, and they are waltzing across heaven to their favorite tunes. We feel privileged to have had them both as our parents, and they are now both our angels watching over us. Sadness will be replaced by precious memories. It has been said there is no death, just a change of worlds. They are now in a much better world.

Eldore will be dearly missed by his son, DaNeil (Hope) Humke, Bloomer; daughter, Karlene (Tom) Krall, Big Bend; grandchildren, Josh (Dionna) Krall and Justin (Aase Quamme) Krall, Gary Rasmussen, Jessie (Dana) Genteman and Heather (Cory) Brockel; great-grandchildren, Danica and Kyla Krall, Gunner Genteman; eight nieces and nephews; and many neighbors and friends. Eldore is also survived by his second wife, Alice Walter.

Eldore was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Laura (Noah) Humke; wife, Violet (Kuester) Humke; twin brother, Elmer Humke; sisters, Bernelda (Norman) Liebzeit and Loriena (Jake) Lindner; brothers-in-law, Norman Liebzeit and Jake Lindner; sisters in-law, Elvera Reineking-Fravert and Gladys (Calvin) Awe.

Eldore’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Clark County Rehabilitation and Living Center in Owen, for their kind and compassionate care.
