William W. Sisson, 98, Greenwood, passed away at Clark County Rehab and Living Center in Owen, on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2022. A graveside service will be held at the Greenwood City Cemetery on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2022 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Asafa Rajaofera officiating.

William Wallace Sisson was born on Aug. 17, 1924 in Milwaukee to George W. and Erna D. (Yunker) Sisson. Bill moved with his parents to the Greenwood area when he was a year old. He grew up on the family farm in the Town of Eaton, rural Greenwood, attended a one-room schoolhouse and graduated from Greenwood High School in 1943. Bill worked at the Badger Ordnance Works, near Sauk City, from 1944 to 1945. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947 and was stationed in Italy. When he returned home, he attended UW-Madison for two years and completed the Farming Short Course. Bill was united in marriage to Shirley M. Hecht on Aug. 28, 1960 at Frieden’s United Church of Christ in Bern, Kan. They lived on the family farm and he was a dairy farmer until retiring in 1981. Bill lived on the family farm for 97 years. He enjoyed traveling after he retired. His favorite trip was a three week trip to Europe with his niece, Linda, and her family, where he was happy to visit where he was stationed during his Army service in Italy.

Bill had many interests, but especially enjoyed genealogy, antiquing, going to auctions, history, reading, sharing his knowledge of the Clark County area, and feeding and watching the birds and his cats brought him much joy. He also spent time volunteering at the Clark County Jail Museum for many years. Bill was always eager to share his knowledge of family and local history, and visit with his friends.

He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Neillsville. Bill is survived by one daughter, Naomi Jorgensen, Ada, Okla.; two grandsons, Neil Jorgensen, Denver, Colo., and Kai (Emmy) Jorgensen, Clarksville, Tenn.; his niece, Linda (Tom) Hett, Pewaukee; nephews, Larry (Nancy) Sisson, Newport, Vt. and Lon Sisson (Sue Roberts) of Racine; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley, on May 12, 1988; and one brother, Glenn Sisson.
