Loyal Area Historical Society Board holds June meeting

The Loyal Area Historical Society Inc. meeting on June 4 was called to order by President Donna Langfeldt. Minutes were read and approved, and the treasurer’s report was read and approved and filed for audit.

Membership cards have arrived and will be given when memberships are paid. The roof on the gas station is completed. The caboose has been painted by Tony Schoonover and Mike Rueth.

The American Legion sign was damaged in a car accident. The Legion Post requested to put up a new sign. A motion was made and passed to allow the new sign. A location was chosen to accommodate lawn mowing. The sign will be built on posts, not a trailer.

There is a problem at the museum site with water from a culvert pooling in the ditch, creating problems for mowing and mosquitoes.

Repainting of the museum sign is needed. Prices were discussed. Stratford Sign Company has been contacted for an estimate.

Painting in the southwest corner of the museum was completed by Pat Firnstahl. The area was cleaned and rearranged, with new donated items added.

A check was received from Loyal Economic Development. This will most likey be the last time the group will able to donate.

In discussion regarding the school building, Bud Smith has spoken to a local Amish builder. The committee will need to buy or get donations of supplies.

A wine and cheese tasting event is not a workable option. The tea party luncheon did not happen due to “Safer At Home.”

The next meeting will be July 9 at 2 p.m. at the museum. The Society will also hold a brat fry on July 14 in the City Hall parking lot.

New members are needed. The museum is open to tours. To schedule a date, call Donna Langfeldt at 715-255-8127.
