Walter H. “Mike” Kummer


1932-2021 Walter H. “Mike” Kummer, 89, of Medford, town of Browning died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2021 at Our House Assisted Living in Medford. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 27, 2021 at the Community United Church of Christ in Medford with Rev. Doris Ruben officiating. Military honors will follow the service at the church. Interment will be at Medford Evergreen II Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m., Saturday at the church. Mike was born May 9, 1932 in Medford to Anton and Pauline (Rudolph) Kummer. He grew up in Medford and attended area schools. Mike entered the military and served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1952-54. On Nov. 7, 1970, Mike married Sandy Daubert at the Community UCC in Medford. They resided in the town of Browning where Mike farmed. He also worked at Metzler Monuments which later became Halls Monuments. Following his retirement, Mike bartended at several local restaurants and taverns, which he enjoyed because he loved talking to people. He also liked to ride in his golf cart and putz in the yard. He took great pride in his yard and “everything in its place” in his shed. He is survived by his wife, Sandy of Medford; three children, Wally (Marsha) Kummer, Lisa (Brian) Noland, Mark (Lori) Willner, all of Medford; grandchildren, Amber (Matt) Neumueller, Tim (Kristine Dassow) Noland, Heidi (Eric) Stark, Alyssa and Hailey Willner, Matthew (Shanae) Henaman, Elizabeth Henaman, Sarah (Ben) Hamele, Gabrielle (Michael Dohrwardt) Kummer, Branden, Seth, Isaac and Braxten Kummer; great-grandchildren, Livia, Harper, Kylie, Adriian, Karsynn, Tessa, Keaton, Mara, and Jade; and nieces and nephews. 1949-2021 Yvonne F. Brunner, 72, of Perkinstown, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2021 at Aspirus Hospital, Medford. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 26 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Medford with Rev. Amy Heinz officiating. Interment will follow at Molitor Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m., Friday at the church. Yvonne was born March 24, 1949 in Rice Lake to Cyril and Opal (Murray) Mancel. She graduated from Altoona High School, then earned an Associate’s Degree in accounting from the University of Minnesota. On March 26, 1977, Yvonne married Bruce Brunner in Withee. They resided in Perkinstown for most of their marriage. Yvonne worked as a realtor in the Medford area and owned and operated Northwoods Realty for many years. She also worked for Catholic Charities, helping with bookkeeping and other areas of management. In her leisure, Yvonne liked to fish, hunt, take photos and was always helping people. Her most precious time was that spent with her family. Her family meant the world to her and she always put everyone ahead of herself. She is survived by her husband, Bruce of Perkinstown; three children, Catherine (Jake) Beilfuss of Medford, Carol (Lonnie) Nelson of Colby, Jeremy (Jennifer) Brunner of Medford; two brothers, Arliegh Leach of Medford, Leroy (Carin) Leach of Mauston; grandchildren, Kyle Firnstahl, Amanda (Jim) Newby, Jessica (Travis) Augustine, Tyler (Amanda) Firnstahl, Veronica (Colton) Belding, Brittney (Patrick) Radlinger, Bobbi Jo (Shawn Peterson) Nelson, Nathan Levenhagen, Megan Brunner, Matthew Brunner, Brandon Brunner; nine great-grandchildren, Khloie, Carter, Addison, Kya, Ava, Remi, Claira, Kentley, Harper; and many nieces and nephews. 1929-2021 Gerald A. Kallenbach, 92, of Medford passed away on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2021 at Abbotsford Health Care Center. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 26 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Medford, with Rev. Daniel Iwinski officiating. Burial will follow at Medford Evergreen II Cemetery. At the age of 8, the family moved to Taylor County where Gerald attended grade school. On Sept. 11, 1954, Gerald married Evelyn Zuleger at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Gerald worked on his parent’s dairy farm until purchasing his own in the town of Browning in 1954 which he operated for 45 years before he retired. He also worked off farm as a laborer at Medford Coop and Farmers Elevator Feed Mill, drove lime truck and bulk milk truck. Everest Edward “Ev” Sonsalla


1932-2021 Everest Edward “Ev” Sonsalla, age 89 of West Baraboo passed away on Friday, Nov. 12, 2021 unexpectedly at home. A memorial mass was held at noon on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Baraboo with Father Jay Poster officiating. Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church Thursday. Inurnment followed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery with military honors. He was born in Independence on March 19, 1932 to parents Ignatius and Catherine (Woychik) Sonsalla. Ev married Dorothy Habermeyer on June 6, 1956. The couple lived in Enterprise, Ala., while Ev served in the Army. They moved to Portage in 1958 and later to Baraboo from 1962-66 and Wisconsin Dells for a few years. They settled in Baraboo in 1969. He attended Independence schools from grade school until high school, and he graduated college from UW-River Falls. He was a teacher at Dorchester, later enlisting in the Army as a Sergeant in both Fort Benning in Georgia and Fort Rucker in Alabama; and after honorable discharge from the Army, he returned to teaching in Portage. Ev was the Boy Scout Master for several years for troop #93. He enjoyed camping at Double KD Ranch with a pink camper, as well as camping with family and scouts. He loved helping people with any building projects, he was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a member of Knights of Columbus #746 and Elks Club, devout member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Baraboo, he was a member of the St. Joseph Parish Council, acting as the president for several years, and ushered for many years. He was involved in the pancake breakfasts for the Knights of Columbus. Ev adored his grandchildren, and always took the opportunity to go on school trips or other functions with them. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were extremely important to him. He enjoyed gardening, canning, playing cards, dominos, working on his HAHSA; a waste oil burner to heat the home and the office, and he went to many farmers and businesses to collect their waste oil. He is survived by children, Daniel Sonsalla of Baraboo, Dean Sonsalla of Baraboo, Diane (Will) Foreman of Otsego, Greg (Joy) Sonsalla of Baraboo, Vicki (Dale) Harmon of Mauston, and daughter-inlaw Heather Sonsalla of Merrillan; twelve grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his sister-in-law, Marion Paul of Abbotsford/ Colby; brother-in-law, Melvin Gebert of Medford; and sister-in-law, Bernice Sonsalla of Independence; along with many nieces; nephews; very dear cousins and many, many friends. Ev was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy; his parents; son, David Sonsalla; siblings, Bernice (Dick) Boland and their son Rick, John Sonsalla, Beatrice (Sister Jean) Sonsalla; siblings-in-law, Bill (Phyllis) Habermeyer and their son Wayne, Emery (Mabel) Habermeyer, Patricia Gebert and her daughter Donna, Ruth (Wayne) Bischel; and Ev and Dorothy’s special dog, Tanner. 1937-2021 “Grandma Pat” passed away peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, Nov. 7, 2021 at the Medford Nursing and Rehab facility in Medford. Pat was born in Milwaukee on Dec. 30, 1937 where she later married Jerome Kurth on Jan. 16, 1960 (later in life divorced). Following their wedding, Pat and Jerome moved to Catawba, Wis. where they eventually took over the family dairy farm in the spring of 1968. She was a busy mother to nine kids, and a housewife on the farm. She always made sure to have homemade buns on the table when the kids got home from school. In 1981, Pat moved to Prentice, where she babysat for a local family. She also worked at the Prentice Travel Center until time of retirement. Pat was a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister. Her laugh was contagious, her favorite time of year was Christmas, she loved having all of her kids and grandkids together for the Christmas holiday, she loved playing cards (even if winning involved some cheating), going on family sleigh and hay rides, and going to horse pulls to watch her son Randy. When the family was together, you could catch her watching and listening with a smile on her face. Other things she enjoyed were puzzles, bingo, word searches, listening to music, watching old movies, and playing dice. Pat is survived by her brother, Jerry Wiarek; and her seven children, Brenda Lingford (Jeff), John Kurth (Michelle), Jody Wanish (Loren), Tami Edinger (Todd), Mary Makovsky (Pete), Randy Kurth (Ginny), Andy Kurth (Karen). She is also survived by her ten grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. Pat was preceded in death by her son, Bob Kurth; daughter, Carol Kurth; her parents Frank and Ann Wiarek; brother, Donald Wiarek; and sister, Dorothy Wiarek. Danny L. Ewoldt


1957-2021 Danny L. Ewoldt, 64, of Rib Lake passed away on Oct. 13, 2021 while surrounded by family at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn. due to complications from Covid-19. Dan was born in Marshfield on Sept. 10, 1957 to Lester and Shirley Ewoldt, née Smith. to Mixed Couples league on Saturdays and Sundays with his wife and in-laws. In 1980, his Wednesday night Men’s team played in the first annual Men’s Pinbuster Tournament. On Dec. 19, 1975 he married his high school sweetheart Cynthia (Yanko). In 2020 they celebrated 45 years of marriage. Danny was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed watching his kids play sports, perform in music concerts, and compete in Special Olympics events. In his spare time, he loved camping with family, hunting, going to Brewer games and NASCAR races, watching Packer games and spending time with his kids and grandkids. Most recently, he enjoyed going for weekly UTV rides with his son Seth as they explored the nearby trails and neighborhood. In addition to his loving wife Cindy, Danny is also survived by his four children; Heather (Andy) Olson of Seymour, Wis., Jeremy (Emily) Ewoldt of Madison, Wis., Hilary (Ryan Robley) Ewoldt of De Pere, Wis., and Seth Ewoldt of Rib Lake. Grandchildren, Ethan, Audrey, and Abigail; brother, Randy (Mary) Ewoldt of Rib Lake; brothers-in-law, Henry Blennert of Rib Lake and David Dake of Medford; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathy and Barry Bromberg of Dubuque, Iowa and Keith and Jill Yanko of Lindenhurst, Ill.; father-in-law, Ben Yanko of Rib Lake; along with seven nieces and nephews. Dan was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Cheryl Dake and Jeanine Blennert; nephew Shane Dake; and mother-in-law, Adeline Yanko. Dan attended Rib Lake Schools and graduated from Rib Lake High School in 1975. Immediately after graduation he started working for S & R Construction, and through the years he worked for Mann Construction, and Zenith Tech. He also drove milk truck for Frank Hamm, Don Fuchs, and Gad Cheese. In 1988 he was hired as the CDL driver for Great Northern Cabinetry in Rib Lake, travelling to many states and enjoying the drive over the last 33 years. Oh, how he loved to drive! His love of sports started in high school, playing football and baseball; after graduation, he played Dairyland baseball for the Spirit Twins and Interwald, and Over 35 baseball for Interwald. He also played slow pitch softball for Mann Construction and Over 35 softball for Cattail Tap. Dan was a member of St Peter Lutheran Church and served as President and Treasurer of the church council for several years. Raymond “Ray” H. Henrichs


1936-2021 Raymond “Ray” H. Henrichs, 85, of the town of Browning passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2021 at Aspirus Hospital in Medford. A memorial mass for Ray took place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father Patrick McConnell officiating. Burial followed at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery, with military honors performed by Medford Honors Team. Visitation took place at Hemer Funeral Home - Medford Chapel on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2021 from 4 p.m. until the time of a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation continued at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of mass at 11 a.m. Ray was born on June 19, 1936 to Hubert and Mary (Werner) Henrichs, in Medford; he was the eighth of 14 children. He graduated from Medford High School in 1954. His first job was as a milk truck driver for Art Albright. He started working for Medford Co-op in 1958 at the feed mill and fertilizer plant. He was drafted in 1959 and was in the Army until September 1962. He returned to the Co-op and retired in 2006. He then worked part time in the propane department for eight more years. He married Mary Piller in 1963 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church; she survives. Ray enjoyed hunting, bowling, playing softball, and getting together with family and friends. In addition to his wife, Ray is survived by his sons, Craig (Jessica) of Stetsonville and Jamie (Tami) and Ryan, both of Medford; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; brothers, Harold (Carol), Peter (Esther), David (Lorrain), Jim (Mary); sisters, Mary Ann Henrichs, Rita (Harold) Rudolph, Loretta Fischer, and Carol (Eldor) Buenning; brother-in-law, Jim Bains; sister-in-law, Rose Henrichs. Randy “Bubba” Lukes


1961-2021 Randy “Bubba” Lukes, 60, of Medford passed away at his home on Nov. 10, 2021. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 15 at the Heindl-Nimsgern Funeral Home, 304 N. Avon Ave, Phillips, WI, 54555. A visitation was on Sunday, Nov. 14 from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. at Heindl Funeral Home and again on Monday, from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. A graveside service was in the Catawba Cemetery, Catawba. He was born on Jan. 21, 1961, to Gerald and Esther (Wroblewski) Lukes in Phillips. Bub was a jokester with a passion for old cars, particularly old MOPAR muscle. He knew what classic cars were sitting in which fields in a 100-mile radius! He did not like pictures but most of the ones he did take, he liked to make a silly face. If you told him, you had your heart set on cheese curds he was sure to make a few fibs that they just ran out of them. He was known to make a few inappropriate but funny comments. He loved spoiling kids with candy and treats, even if he had to sneak it to them when their parents were not looking. If you didn’t see him in shorts, you knew he had to dress up for something, but they were usually close by to change into. He had a comforting presence that will be truly missed by his family. He is survived by his wife, Michelle (Tulpan); son, Justin; sisters, Louis (Ray) Newstrom, and Sandy (Jim) Jensen; brother, Jeff; many nieces and nephews; a mother and father-in-law, Judy and Tennes Tulpan; brothers-in-law, Brian Tulpan, Dennis (Corrie) Tulpan; Stacy (Caron); sisters- in-law; Brenda Tulpan, Laura (Michael) Ellis, Denise Tulpan; Tammy Thums; and many loved ones and friends.
