Helen Kay (Johnson) Marshall

Helen Kay (nee Johnson) Marshall, 85, of Medford, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2023 at Aspirus Care and Rehab in Medford, while under the care of Hope Hospice.

A private funeral service will be held with burial at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery.

Helen was born Dec. 26, 1937 to Harold and Marion (McKune) Johnson. She graduated from high school in Kenosha in 1956.

On Nov. 16, 1957, she married her high school sweetheart, Thomas Marshall in Kenosha.

Helen and Tom resided in Kenosha and in 1964, moved to Marshfield to raise their young family. While in Marshfield, Helen worked as a seamstress and as a cook for the schools. In 1977, the family moved to Medford where Helen worked at Tombstone Pizza and at the Little Store. Even though she worked outside the home, Helen’s favorite career was being a housewife to

Helen loved crafts and enjoyed knitting, sewing and crocheting. She made Barbie doll clothing and other crafts for her family that will always be cherished.

She is survived by her children, James P. (Darlene) Marshall of Dorchester, John (Kay) Marshall of Medford, Jane Emling of Neillsville, Julie (Al) Riemer of Stetsonville; 11 grandchildren, James A. Marshall, Jeremy (Jayme) Marshall, Mitchell Marshall, Elliot (Kelsey) Marshall, Lucia Marshall, Margaret (Zack) Brunsell, Elizabeth (Erik) Chapman, Chad and Lucas Emling, Brooke (Ryan) Steevens, Cassie (Luc) Friedenfels; three step-grandchildren, Brian Strey, Scott (Alicia) Strey, Lindsay (Ben) Sydow; 13 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tom just a few weeks ago on Sept. 4, 2023; a son, Jeff in infancy; siblings, Mary Jane Carlson, JoAnne Scharf, Cliff Johnson; and a granddaughter, Jolene Nowak.
