Leo J. Geiger, 97, Loyal, peacefully went to see the Lord, his wife, a very special daughter, Cali Sue, and his son, Brian, on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at Stoney River Assisted Living in Marshfield. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, in Loyal. Rev. Emmanuel Famiyeh will officiate and burial will follow in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Luke Lindner, Mike Vine, Jason Haslow, Ryan Geiger, Dylan Geiger and Randy Geiger. Visitation will be held at the church, on Wednesday, from 9 a.m. until time of service. Leo John Geiger was born in Dorchester, on April 4, 1926, to Francis “Frank” X. and Ann M. (Metz) Geiger Sr. He was raised on the family farm and received his education at St. Louis Catholic School in Dorchester. After completing his education, Leo farmed with his father for four years. He was united in marriage to Dorothy G. Kroening on April 19, 1944, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester. They moved to Loyal where they farmed for four years. Leo then drove truck for Norman Luchterhand for one year, followed by three years driving for Always Transfer, out of Spencer. His last employment was with O-W Trindal in Loyal, which later became Smith Feed and then Vita Plus, where he drove for 48 years until retiring in 2001. He and Dorothy celebrated 70 years of marriage just before Dorothy’s passing on April 30, 2014. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and the Circle 8 Square Dancing Club. He loved spending time with his family and gardening. Leo is survived by three daughters, Sharon (Randy) Hendrickson of Wild Rose, Lavon Lindner (Roger Ellison) of Loyal, and Karen (Edward) Haslow of Independence, Ohio; four sons: Marvin (Karleen) Geiger of Weston, Alan (Carol) Geiger of Fort Wayne, Ind., LaVern (Donna) Geiger of Mesa, Ariz. and Kevan Geiger of Brule, Neb.; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; one daughter-in-law: Sarah Geiger of Loyal; and one sister-in-law: Marcella Sitko of Mosinee; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Carolyn Geiger on June 27, 2002; his son, Brian Geiger on Oct. 18, 2022; his son-in-law, Mike “Hunter” Lindner on Jan. 8, 2002; one grandson, Dale Vine, Jr.; one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Thompson; seven brothers, Mike, Frank Jr., Joe, Al, Andy, Henry, and Benedict in infancy; and nine sisters, Mae Petrie, Ann Whitman, Frances Simon, Agnes Pupp, Lucy Carpenter, Elsie Pupp, Helen Pacourek, Henrietta Gondloch and Ethel Pupp. A special thank you to Promedica Hospice for the loving and compassionate care given to Leo in his final days. Irene M. “Boutz” Wilke, 89, Loyal, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, in her home with family at her side. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday May 30, 2023, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Loyal. Rev. Emmanuel Famiyeh officiated, and burial followed in the parish cemetery. Her grandsons served as pallbearers. Visitation was held at the church on Monday, May 29, 2023, from 4-8 p.m., and again on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Irene Marie Lindner was born on May 21, 1934, to Casper and Marie (Keller) Lindner, in Greenwood. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and graduated from Greenwood High School in 1952. Irene was united in marriage to Franklin J. Wilke on June 17, 1953, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Greenwood. They were married for 60 years until Frank’s death on Sept. 12, 2013. Following their wedding, Irene joined her husband, Frank on the farm. They farmed in Pittsville for two years before moving to Greenwood. In 1956, they purchased a farm and moved to Loyal. In addition to being a homemaker, she was a member of St. Anthony’s choir and the PCCW. She worked at the Greenwood Café with her sister Elaine, “Sis.” Irene was an excellent baker and gardener. Irene was heavily involved in 4-H. She enjoyed bowling and playing cards and marbles with friends and family. She was an avid Packers, Brewers, Badgers and Greyhounds fan. She will be dearly missed by her children: Catherine (Dennis) Weber of Menomonie, Dianne (Eddy) Kollmansberger of Loyal, Patricia Blanscet of Lohn, TX, Steven (Kristen) Wilke of Parker, S.D., Louann (Paul) Lazzari of Grafton, Bernard Wilke, Thomas (Amanda) Wilke, Robert (Tanya) Wilke and Anthony (Cheri) Wilke, all of Loyal, and Lisa (David) Meyer of Hudson. Irene is also survived and will be dearly missed by 32 grandchildren: David (Anne) Weber, Christina (James) Alonzo, Patrick (Megan) Weber, Eric (Michelle) Weber and Jonathon (Becky) Weber, Jason (Hillary) Kollmansberger, Chad (Angie) Kollmansberger, Brandi (Jamie) Barthel, Kelli (Zach) Kauth, Courtney (Phillip) Chapman, Britney (Stan) Bellard, Austin (Katie) Blanscet, Abigail Moring, Kayla and Allison Wilke, Amanda (Matt) Hoadley, Jessica (James) Martins, Bradley (Veronica) Wilke and Matthew (Erin) Wilke, Andrya, Grayce and Aedynn Wilke, Taylre (Dillon) Serocki, Ryleigh and Trevyn Wilke, Taylor, Nick and Savanah Wilke, Bret (Gena) Olson, Paige, Bryce and Carly Meyer; 35 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Donald (MaryAnn) Lindner of Greenwood, LaVerne (Joan) Lindner of Loyal and Richard (Bonnie) Lindner of Greenwood; three sisters: Jeanette Sullivan of Dumfries, Va., Shirley (Henry) Janezich of Willard and Dorothy Wessell of Sheboygan; one sister-in-law: Shirley Lindner of Loyal; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Franklin; a son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Penni Wilke and their daughter, Jennifer; son-in-law, Kim Blanscet; two sisters: Elaine and Jacqueline; and two brothers: Carl and Arthur. Heaven gained an angel and we have lost a woman of grace and kindness. Mrs. Luella Celia (née Young) Butterbrodt passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023, at the age of 104. Luella was born on Feb. 24, 1919, to Alberti “Bert” Enoch Young and Cecilia “Celia” Belle (Clouse) Young. Luella grew up in Loyal, attended Mack School, and graduated from Loyal High School in 1936 at age 16. After graduation, Luella worked at the Picus and Bill Relis grocery stores in Loyal before moving to Chicago, where she worked at Republic Tool Company until World War II broke out. She returned to Loyal and married William E. “Bill” Butterbrodt on April 25, 1942, at Loyal United Methodist Church. They owned and operated several farms and managed their lands until they transferred their farms and belongings to their son and wife, Chuck and Dianne. Luella and Bill celebrated 63 years of marriage before Bill died on Oct. 11, 2005. She had many interests, but especially enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, teaching Vacation Bible Study and volunteering at church, and was known for her German potato salad, molasses cookies and angel food cake, as well as many other delicacies. Luella was also known for her pleasant personality, kindness, grace, beauty, intelligence and open door. You never left her door without food or a gift. Nor did she enter another’s door without bringing something. Luella enjoyed spending time with her siblings. She and her sisters were known as the “Young Girls” because they were young at heart and their maiden name was Young. Luella is survived by her son, Charles “Chuck” (Dianne) Butterbrodt of Spencer; her daughter, Janet “Jan” Butterbrodt and husband Dennis Knickellbein of Oshkosh; four grandchildren: Denise (Chris) Kallas, Troy (Heather) Butterbrodt, Blake (Leah) Knickellbein and Bryce (Amanda) Knickellbein; 10 great-grandchildren: Sophia, Niko, Leo and Brik Kallas, Georgia and Nathan Butterbrodt, and Callan, Hayden, Luella and Josie Knickellbein; her sister, Hazel Rogstad of Marshfield, and her brother, Calvin Young of Tucson, Ariz.; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; a baby; two sisters: Edith Verhalen and Norma Kuehling; her half-brother, Harold Young; sisters-in-law: Irene Hepner, Loraine Brown, Dahlia Susa, Beverly Stirmel, Marge Young, Doris Butterbrodt and Verna Butterbrodt; brothers-in-law: Edgar Verhalen, Norman Kuehling, Vernon Rogstad, Allison Butterbrodt, Allan Hepner, John Brown, Robert Susa and Thomas Stirmel; one niece: Alice Dietz; and four nephews: Steven Rogstad, Johnny Brown, Alvin Hepner and Ronald Hepner. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Loyal United Methodist Church, in Loyal. Pastor Kathy Jury will officiate, and burial will follow in the Loyal City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Honorary pallbearer will be Wayne Kuehling. Visitation will be held at church on Saturday, from 12 p.m. until the time of the service. She believed that if you have God in your heart, you are never alone. Luella lived her faith by being kind to all she met and never giving up on hope. It was an honor to know her, but a great blessing to call her family. Rest in heavenly peace, dear beloved Luella. Martha J. Hoffarth, 76, Marshfield, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, May 6, 2023, surrounded by her loving family and faithful dogs. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Spencer, with Rev. Barry Saylor officiating. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Loyal. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren: Jacob Hansen, Caryn Van Pietersom, Justin Hansen, Evan Hoffarth, Jason Hansen, Clayton Becker, Zachary Hoffarth, Greg Becker and Travis Becker. Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at the church from 9-11 a.m. Martha Jean Longtin was born on Dec. 15, 1946, in Walhalla, N.D., to Henry J. and May E. (Beaudoin) Longtin. She was raised and received her education in Walhalla, graduating from Walhalla High School in 1965. Martha was united in marriage to Jerome J. Hoffarth on Jan. 23, 1964, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Walhalla, N.D. They were the proud parents of Tammy, Bryan, Carrie and Pamela. They lived in Milwaukee, where Martha was a proud mother and homemaker. In 1976, they bought and ran a dairy farm in Greenwood until 1993. After selling the farm, they bought a 40-acre hobby farm in Owen. Martha worked at County Market in Abbotsford, and then the Abby Inn until her retirement in 2008. After the passing of her beloved husband in 2010, Martha and her youngest daughter, Pam, bought a house together in Weston, where they lived until 2014. They then bought a house together in Marshfield, where she lived until her death. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and especially loved watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren being born and raised. Family was the most important thing to her and she was a terrific mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and friend. She had a smile that could warm any heart. Martha helped Pam with her in-home daycare and loved each of those kids until her dying day. She had many interests including baking homemade bread, making food for loved ones and friends, watching the birds, listening to classic country music and attending her Catholic church. She loved her puppies: Emma, Haley and Abby. They brought her so much joy over the past 13 years. Martha is survived by her loving children: Tammy (Doug) Hansen of Willard, Bryan (Peggy) Hoffarth of Granton, Carrie (CJ) Becker of Greenwood, and Pam Hoffarth of Marshfield; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Lonnie (Gerry) Longtin of Walhalla, N.D., Clair (Susie) Longtin of Cavalier, N.D.; her sister-in-law: Irene Longtin of West Fargo, N.D.; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jerome, of 46 years; her parents; three sisters: Orise Carpenter, Birdella Morin and Priscilla Thompson; and four brothers: Cyril, Paul, Elmer and Wayne Longtin. A special thank you to the wonderful staff at Compassus hospice home health; Fr. Gordon “Gordy” Haselow

Gordon “Gordy” Haselow


Gordon A. “Gordy” Haselow, 81, Loyal, passed away at home on Wednesday, April 19, 2023. A private graveside service was held on Friday, April 28, 2023, in the Lutheran Cemetery in Loyal. Gordon Albert Haselow was born on July 1, 1941, in Spokeville (rural Loyal), to Albert C. and Violet D. (Gretzner) Haselow. He was raised on the family farm, and received his education in the Loyal area, graduating from Loyal High School in 1959. After high school, Gordy voluntarily entered the U.S. Army Wisconsin National Guard on June 27, 1959, and served until his honorable discharge on Dec. 12, 1963. During his time in the National Guard, he completed the farm short course at UW-Madison. Gordy was united in marriage to Marlene L. Hoefs on Oct. 5, 1963, at Zion Lutheran Church in Stratford. He continued to serve in the U.S. Army Reserve until May 31, 1967. They took over the operation of his parents’ farm, where they raised their two sons. In 1999, they sold the farm to their son, Steve, and moved to Loyal. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he was the custodian for five years. He was the clerk for the Town of Sherman for 20 years, served on the Clark County Board for 20 years, and served on the Loyal School Board for 10 years. Gordy had many interests. He was honored to guide his community by serving on town, school and county boards. He loved the 280 acres of land and the many animals that became known as Spruce Line Farms. But he especially loved his family. Gordy was happiest when he was surrounded by his wife, his sons, his daughters-in-law, his grandchildren and great-grandchild. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Marlene, of Loyal; his two sons: Steve (Sandra) Haselow of Loyal, and David (Brenda) Haselow of Madison; four grandchildren: Eric (Megan) Haselow, Austin Haselow, Ellie Haselow and Grant Haselow; one great-grandson: Russell Haselow; two sisters: Marliss (John) Paradies of Cornell, and Veryl (Cliff) Sackett of Fergus Falls, Minn.; one brother-in-law: Eugene Querin of Medford; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
