Marathon Fun Days Were Huge Success
The fifteenth annual Marathon Fun Days was very well attended over the Labor Day weekend. The parade carrying out the bicentennial theme was beautiful with red, white and blue colors and flags predominating. Miss Bernie Brill reigned as Fun Days Queen. Fuel Shortage May Hit Marathon County
Marathon County will be affected by a continuing service pullback by the Atlantic Richfield Oil Co. that could deny rural Wisconsin “millions of gallons of fuel for homes, businesses and farms” Gov. Patrick Lucey has said.
Tractor is Damaged
Members of the Stratford Fire Department answered a call to the Gene Adams farm for a tractor fire. The tractor received only moderate damage. STRATFORD JOURNAL

A place to rest awhile
A children’s shrine was dedicated and blessed at St. Joseph’s School and is a new place for the children and adults to find quiet. Rev. Thomas Rudolph blessed the shrine in front of the student body and guests.
New teachers to Stratford schools
This year the Stratford District welcomes six new teachers. They are Tammy Berg as elementary guidance counselor, Ryan Bloom sixth grade, Matt Fiedler - fourth grade,Shana Rettler band director and teacher, Jennifer Burnett school psychologist and Melissa Meyer as pre-school teacher.
Stratford cross country
The Stratford Tiger cross country teams got off to a fair start in their seasons with both teams placing 10th out of 20 schools at the Owen Invitational. Top runners for the Tigers was Katie Kohlbeck and Brad Leick.

Annual Corn Roast
Edgar Lions held their annual corn roast meeting at the Edgar Village Park. Seventeen Lions were present and it was also ladies night. Guests of the evening were Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Johnson and Jerry and Lydia Greisch.
AHS Homecoming Set
The Athens High School Bluejays will meet the Abbotsford Falcons on Friday evening. Following the game, the homecoming court will preside over the dance. Court members are Russ Schneveis and Sharon Witucki, Steve Braun and Lori Giese, Jeff Haines and Florine Literski, Udell Passehl and Clarice Novitzki, Billy Blake and Lori Boneske.
Pinewood Derby
Marathon Cub Scouts Pack 458 held their annual Pinewood Derby as part of the annual Fun Days. Winners were Gerard Michlig, Mike Hornung, Lee Zemski, Alan Schuster, Doug Stencil, and Jeff Ringle.

STH 29 improved, but faster
The state DOT recently increased STH 29’s speed limit at the CTH intersection to 65 miles per hour. This has raised safety concerns about cross traffic at at-grade highway accesses including CTH Y, S, O, M and the turnoff to the Pine Valley Golf Course.
Marathon Fun Days
The 40th annual Marathon Fun Days had a successful run over Labor Day weekend. Becky Balz of Marathon was crowned Marathon Fun Days Queen Friday evening at the village ball diamond. She is the daughter of Tom and Pam Balz, Marathon.
Marathon Fun Days
Edgar sixth grader Casey Larsen received a Literary Achievement Award for his DARE essay at a convention of the Wisconsin Narcotics Officers Association. One of two students recognized statewide, Larsen was presented with a $100 check for future educational endeavors and a congratulatory plaque.
