ATHENS
The Senior Citizens card group met on July 3 for weekly card playing at the Athens Area Fire and Ambulance Hall.
Three games of Sheepshead were played. Rick Schaetzl won first place and Steve Klockziem came in second in the first game. Tom Ellenbecker won first and Andy Hoeft came in second in the second game. Henry Faber took first and Aaron Totzke came in second in the third game.
Low score was Wil Strack. Newcomers are encouraged to come play Sheepshead every Thursday from 12:30-3:30 p.m. at the Athens fire hall.
Dinner by the Gazebo
Friday Night Dinner by the Gazebo will be hosted by the VFW Auxiliary. The menu will consists of hot ham and cheese sandwiches, pickle, chips, soda or water and pie. Serving will start at 5:30 p.m. and go until the concert is over. The Old Timers Concert will start at 7:30 p.m. The drawing for the patriotic stained-glass art will be held by the Auxiliary during the night. Tickets will be available to purchase on Friday. In the event of rain, the dinner and concert will move to the shelter at Memorial Park. Friday Night Dinner by the Gazebo is looking for people who would like to serve a picnic style dinner before the Old Timers Concerts. Call Jean at 715-257-7353 for information.
Mini watercolor art Adults and teens are invited to the Athens Branch Library until July 12 to make mini watercolor art. Experiment with vibrant watercolors while you paint a masterpiece on a mini canvas. Canvas, brushes, paints, easels, and even some ideas will be provided. Brennan Benaszeski, majoring in marketing communications, was named to the 2025 spring semester dean’s list at UW-River Falls. To be named to the list, a full-time undergraduate must earn a grade-point average of at least 3.5 on a scale of 4.0, or midway between an “A” and “B” average.
Andrew Schaer was named to the spring 2025 dean’s list at Carthage College in Kenosha. Dean’s list honors are accorded to students who achieve a minimum 3.5 grade-point average while carrying at least 12 letter-graded credits in a given semester.

Paper beads
Kids are invited to stop by the Edgar Branch Library during the week of July 14-19 to make upcycled paper beads. After creating and decorating the paper beads, you can turn them into a bracelet or other craft. Younger children may need assistance from a caregiver. Drop by anytime during open hours.
