Thomas H. “Butch” Bauer, 71, Greenwood, passed away at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield, on Monday, April 28, 2025. Funeral services will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Loyal at a later date.
Thomas Harvey Bauer was born on May 11, 1953, in Neillsville, the son of Harvey A. and Louise J. (Gall) Bauer. He was raised on the family farm and received his education in Loyal, graduating from Loyal High School in 1971. While in high school, Butch worked at Northside Elevator in Loyal, as well as helping his father on the farm. Later, he started his own custom combining business. He was united in marriage to Mary E. Rucker on Sept. 4, 1992, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Loyal. They took over the operation of the family farm in 1994 and continued the operation of his combine business. In 2018, he lost his combine in a fire; he then helped James Reiff with his custom combining business.
After retiring in 2021, Butch enjoyed sitting around the fire pit, tinkering in his shop, making maple syrup with the Amish, and cutting firewood. He loved working the fields, and enjoyed camping with family and friends.
He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, the Granton Tractor Club, and served as the Town of Eaton supervisor.
Butch will be dearly missed by his wife, Mary, of Greenwood; three stepchildren: Glenn Rucker (Sarah Mannigel) of Greenwood, Krista Rucker (Mac Gomber) of Wisconsin Rapids, and Lindsey Rucker (Marcus Gardner) of Lynn Haven, Fla.; three grandchildren: Sean, Mac, Kloey; two step-grandchildren: Kayla and Jasmine; two step-great-grandsons: Kade and Jameson; three siblings: John (Marilyn) Bauer of Loyal, Ed (Rhonda) Bauer of Greenwood, and Vickie (Brian) Johnston of Greenwood; seven in-laws: Tom Lobner, Jim (Mel) Lobner, Al (Deb) Lobner, and John (Bonnie) Lobner, all of Wisconsin Rapids, Ron (Sandy) Lobner of Arpin, Ann (Randy) Kleinschmidt of Marshfield, and Gerard Lobner of Auburndale; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
