Car Wash
The Stratford Girl Scouts are sponsoring a car wash at Roy’s Service Station. The prices will be inside, $1 and outside, $1. Bicycles will be washed for 50 cents.
Stratford Lions Club
The Stratford Lions Club met at the Buck-ANeer supper club. Elected as officers for the new year were: Richard Vetter, president; Joseph Lato, first vice-president; Peter Grassl, third vice-president; Jerome Melbinger, 2-year director; Dean Wieland, 1-year director; Robert Leonhardt, tail twister; Michael Young, Lion tamer; and Dale Dooge, re-elected secretary.
Tiger Baseball
The Stratford Tiger baseball team won two more games to put their record up to 4-0. Stratford is tied with Nekoosa for first place in the conference.

Guenther awarded
Stratford School District superintendent Thomas Tuttle presented Mel Guenther with an award for service to the school district during the Lions All-Sports Banquet. Guenther, 94, served on the school board for many years and has presented the George Davel Memorial Award to the outstanding male athlete of the year for 35 of the past 36 years.
Hutchinson earns award from UWSP
Larry Hutchinson, Stratford, received the Classified Employee Recognition Award from the university. Hutchinson was one of four classified employees to receive the award, which includes a $50 certificate.
Schweiger wins Golden Gloves
Jonathan Schweiger, Stratford, competed and won the 165-pound weight class of the Wisconsin-Upper Michigan Golden Gloves Tournament held in Racine. He competed in the novice division and is not eligible to compete at nationals.

Athens to get new new doctor
Dr. Robert Rankin will be practicing in the Athens Medical Center starting approximately July 15. This announcement was made by the Athens Area Development committee who has been working to secure a doctor’s services for the Athens area.
Edgar Prom
Dave Hanneman and Bonnie Kurtzweil have been chosen as king and queen for the 1975 Edgar High School Prom which will be held at the school. “Colour My World” is the theme and music will be by the Woodson-Bush band. Tracey Hannemann, sister of the king and Dale Kurtzweil, brother of the queen, will serve as crownbearers.
Students from MHS get first
Forty-eight students from Marathon High School participated in the state solo ensemble contest held at the UW-Eau Claire. First ratings were earned by Marla Otto, Cindy Goldbach, Shirley Wielock, Kay Burish, Chris Burke, Andrea Paff, and Lenore Levandoski.

Edgar native to deliver commencement speech
Edgar native Bridget Finke, a graduating senior who is a double major in speech communications and business administration, will deliver the 125th anniversary commencement address at the UW-River Falls in May.
Problem solvers
Marathon eighth graders recently won the Northcentral Technical College Problem Solving Contest. They competed with 19 other central Wisconsin teams in logic and hands-on problem solving. Team members include Michelle Bergmann, captain, Michelle Gumtz, Brandon Carlson, Jack Ho, Aaron Stelzl, and Brian Osterbrink. They were coached by Doreen Schultz.
New owners
Co-owners of the newly renamed Athens diner “The Athens Country Café” are Dawn Pomrening and Donna Akey.
2000 – Edgar Greenhouse
Edgar High School Horticulture class students Clint Kroening and Gwen Nowak are pictured making final preparations for the annual Mother’s Day plant sale at the Lucy Shortner Greenhouse.

The Stratford Prom Court presided over prom on April 29 in the Stratford High School commons. King Shawn Kirsch and Queen Shannon Heeg reigned over the event.
