Todd Koch, Town of Estella, was present at the Cornell City Council meeting March 7, speaking about how he feels support of opening all roads to ATVs and UTVs is important. Cornell’s roads are already open to the traffic, but it’s now at the county level to decide whether to allow it, which can benefit from support at a local level. Photo by Ginna Young

It was good news for all concerned March 7, at the Cornell City Council meeting, as an offer was acted on from Better Built Inc., to purchase Lots 7, 8 and 9, of Brunet Estates, for the asking price of $38,501. The builder plans on constructing spec homes on the lots, all at once, which will help with the housing shortage and place the property on the taxroll.

“I’m glad to see them get developed,” said city administrator Dave De-Jongh.

Members also approved an amended engineering agreement with Cedar Corp., for the Bates and N. Fifth streets projects, as the rules were “changed up.” Before applying for a grant, the city must now complete an environmental review study, which is included in the engineering proposal.

They also acted on a resolution approving amendments to the Cornell Area Ambulance Service intergovernmental cooperative agreement. The Ambulance Board thought it would be best if they combined the secretary and treasurer position into one.

“Some of the bylaws changed a little, but not much,” said council member Floyd Hickethier.

Members also heard an update on the timer sale contract with S& S Forestry Plus. S& S sent the city $6,333, which was due at execution of the contract.

“They’re all set to go,” said De-Jongh.

It was also reported that the council thought they had filled the police chief position, but that again fell through.

“That process will be continuing,” said DeJongh.
