Updates, school report card numbers shared

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving with family and our hunters had a successful season.
I am astonished to think that we are in the month of December with only a little over three weeks to Christmas.
Veterans Day is a long-standing tradition at Loyal. A special thank you to everyone who was involved in another great program. I would like to thank all our veterans and active military for all their sacrifices and what they have done for us and our country.
Congratulations to all members of the Greenwood/Loyal one-act play for their performance at state. They were awarded the All-State Award and the Technical Award. This is one of many opportunities that the two districts have been working together to provide for students in each district. Last trimester, we had 11 Greenwood students take English class with Mr. Adams. This trimester we have six Loyal students going to Greenwood for an AutoCAD class. Both districts will continue to look for opportunities and resources to provide each district’s students.
A collaborative board retreat was held Nov. 8. Each board member shared their thoughts on academics, co-curriculars, and buildings and grounds. There was a lot of great discussion on what the future looks like for both districts. Consolidation entered the discussion. The boards will create a survey that will be sent to both communities for more input. The next collaboration retreat will be Wednesday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m. in the Loyal High School gym.
The High Reliability Schools (HRS) survey results are on the school’s website. I thank everyone who took part in the survey. The information we received from the survey will be very helpful for the future of our district. For level one of the HRS process, we have concentrated on the safety and culture of our district. The survey will assist us with making sure that we are doing the best for our students and staff.
The state report card was made available to the public in middle of November. This assessment tool gives us data that will be used by the teachers and administration to address areas that need improvement. The results are: Elementary School = 63/100 Meets Expectations Middle School = 64.8/100 Meets Expectations High School = 56.6/100 Meets Few Expectations District = 61.3/100 Meets Expectations The situations with the boilers and steam traps are being addressed, as contractors have been working on getting the boilers to run adequately and efficiently. The district’s maintenance department has been going through and cleaning and repairing the steam traps of the building. I would like to congratulate all the fall co-curriculars and wish good luck to the winter co-curriculars.
Lastly, I would like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year! Have a safe holiday with your families.
Happy holidays.
