Mural coming to Greenwood Legion! The Greenwood American Legion, Wallis-Hinker-Brux Post 238, has been in existence since 1920, when 15 charter members established the Legion after WWI. That was 106 years ago! It is named after the first members of the Greenwood area who were lost in combat in each conflict. Henry Wallis was killed during WWI; Richard Hinker was lost during WWII; and Gary Brux died during the Vietnam War. Today the Greenwood Legion, 108 S. Main St., Greenwood is under command of Mark Lindner. The Legion wants to encourage ALL veterans to consider joining the Legion. You do NOT need to be sponsored to join. Also, by being a member of the Legion, you are once again recognized as being someone who sacrificed for your country. Being a member also will give you access to other veterans who can offer knowledge and assistance regarding resources that are available. The Legion in Greenwood not only has a long and strong military history, but it also still hosts several community events, such as Friday fish fries in the spring, the charcoal chicken dinner on Memorial Day, and renting out the building for private events. These events are a chance for the community to reconnect with one another, as well as enjoy some very good food! As with many organizations in small towns, it has struggled with declining membership and upkeep of a very old building. Today the Legion is looking to the community for support to help update the building by adding a mural to the outside of the building along with other improvements. This will be an opportunity for community members to show their pride in Greenwood and to honor their military family members — but most of all to show their appreciation to all military veterans, both past and present. Their sacrifices should never be forgotten or taken for granted. America is truly a wonderful place to live! One of the biggest reasons for that is the security we all feel, knowing that someone is watching over us. Knowing that if help is needed ... someone will come to our aid. That someone is our military, our fire department, our police force, and our neighbors. Please consider donating to the Greenwood American Legion mural fund that has been established at Forward Financial Bank in Greenwood. All donations are equally appreciated, no matter the amount. 183387 Thank you Mural coming to Greenwood Legion!
