Adam Jacobson, Marathon boys basketall coach, couldn’t have asked for a better defensive game against Edgar. The final score is normally closer in the matchups between the Red Raiders and Wildcats, but that certainly wasn’t the case on Tuesday night in Edgar.

“I was really pleased with our defensive effort,” he said. “It started with us, for the most part, taking care of the basketball and taking good shots. From there I was really happy with our high hand closeouts. I thought we bothered the basketball well, and then when the shot went up we were able to hold them to one shot. I am really happy with how the guys executed throughout the whole game.”

Edgar sophomore Leyton Schuett led his team with 14 points and junior Brett Baumgartner added nine. Baumgartner scored all of his points in the first half against Marathon.

Marathon remains tied with Newman Catholic for first place in the Marawood South Conference. The Red Raiders have a 10-1 record in the South and are 13-2 overall this season. Edgar, meanwhile, sees its record fall to 4-6 in the South and 6-9 overall this season.
