Triplets on Senior Night Triplets on Senior Night

Sisters are three of five ‘Cat seniors

It’s not often that triplets account for 60 percent of a varsity high school volleyball team’s seniors, but that’s the case in Edgar this season.

On Thursday night, the Edgar volleyball team celebrated Senior Night. Senior sisters Isabella, Lydia and Sasha Huehnerfuss were given flowers along with the team’s two other seniors, Malia Hoesly and Sophia Larson. Parents hugged their players on the volleyball court.

Edgar head volleyball coach Evan Krebsbach started all five seniors to begin the team’s home match against Crandon. Sasha Huehnerfuss, however, came down with a bloody nose during pre-game warmups and she wasn’t able to join her two sisters on the volleyball court right away to begin the match. She still thought it was pretty cool to be recognized with her sisters on Senior Night, in which Edgar beat Crandon in three straight sets by scores of 2513, 25-20 and 25-17.

“It’s really special because my two sisters and I grew up together sharing a love of playing volleyball,” Sasha Huehnerfuss said. “It was overall a good night; everyone put a lot of work into making it special for us and I really appreciate it.”

Chris Kohl led Edgar’s student section in cheering loudly for the volleyball team, which defeated Crandon in the first set on junior Ashley Erickson’s ace serve for the final point. Edgar had more difficulty beating Crandon in the second set, however back-to-back combo blocks by Wildcats twin towers Reagan Borchardt and Kendalyn Dahlke on the front line gave Edgar the set victory.

Coach Krebsbach said his team needs to keep playing strong volleyball against their opponents in every set in matches.

“We knew Crandon had played some really tough teams so their record was deceiving,” he said. “We knew they had the potential to push us, and I think in that second set our girls just got a little flat and solid or gritty teams are going to expose you when you are slow and that’s exactly what happened. We were really fortunate to get the win in the second set and get that padding to play our bench in the third set.”

Edgar also beat the Wausau Newman Cardinals, 3-2, on Tuesday at home by scores of 25-19, 25-15, 1925, 26-28 and 15-13. Edgar improves its overall match record to 12-2 this season. Edgar is currently in second place in the Marawood South Conference with a 3-1 match record behind Marathon, 4-0. The Wildcats’ lone conference match loss was to the Red Raiders this season.

Coach Krebsbach is pleased with how his team’s season has gone thus far this season.

“Comparing it to an exposure in a camera, I would say our team has a really good triangle of intelligence, hard work and fun, and that’s a really good balance to have this year,” he said. “After this same group of players barely lost five-set matches last season, I think the girls have a lot of hope and determination to come in and really take care of business this year.”
